  1. I work as a coordinator for a busy private duty agency and I feel all nurses have the right to decline a position and not to made to feel bad about it. The coordinator was probably frustrated that he had to go back to the drawing board and find another nurse ! That in itself can be crazy making !
  2. Love your posts ! I have done private duty for 25 years..worked with wonderful patients and families , I still enjoy hearing the families point of view !
  3. I have done private duty for 26 years but now I work in the office with scheduling . More often that not, the family doesn't care for the nurse and I have the awful job of explaining that she/can't return to the case. I agree though..no lies !! I think it depends on the case whether you want to tell the family yourself or you would prefer the agency to handle it. Personally, I prefer to tell the family myself.
  4. I still get that, why aren't you an RN after 28 years as an LVN !!
  5. I have been a LVN for 28 years , I really wanted to be an RN for most of it but life took over and I wasn't able to go back to school.Having said that, I have had such a wonderful and fulfilling career as an LVN. Experiences with patients and families in the Private Duty sector that I wouldn't trade for anything. I just moved out of patient care into the office doing Clinical Scheduling Admin. and I just love it. It is very fast paced but because of my experience I just clicked with this new job ! Good Luck !!
  6. Interesting question ! I have worked with many blonde peers( I am a brunette) and I don't think I've ever heard them state it is a problem. You have to prove yourself , no matter what !
  7. You might like Private Duty nursing. However, most companies require a year of acute care experience.
