"I did not "refuse". I told you how to find them. I just did not do it for you. " What, this is not a refusal? JT, YOU made some highly inflammatory statements directly to me and have proceeded to continue. YOU have continued to twist the truth in order to defame my personal character. This is a sick game when you have to stoop so low as to make up bold face lies. I am asking you to back up these specific statements and lies that you have made. YOU still have not done it. Instead you take one sentence here and there and post it with out the proper relationship to what I was saying. I can and I am sure everyone else can see just who and what they are dealing with. YOU are not credible in my eyes. I used to think you were but you have proved at least to me that you are someone that can not to be trusted. If you can not trust someone to tell the truth, then they just can not be trusted at all especially when they go around fabricating bold face lies about someone else. If you feel that this is one way that is a must in order to win support for the ANA or the union, then it is worse than I can even begin to comphrehend. If it was not for people like Jenny and Karen and others I would see the ANA and the Union as filled with people like you. It is a scarry thought that one day with your envolvment that you might achieve a place higher up in these organizations. You actually bring a lot of disrespect to them in the way you personally act. YOU are not a good representation or voice for them. If this is the message they are trying to send out to unify nurses then they are destine to be a minority by causing people to run in the opposite direction. In other words, your way or no way and if you do not agree, then we will just run you over and make up stuff to discredit you. Could this be a major reason people are not knocking on the doors in mass numbers to join? Could this be the reason the over whelming majority 92 to 93% of the nurses in the united states have refused to join and support the organization? Could it be that you and the way you deal with others who disagree is something that turns a vast amount of nurses off? You say the ANA has changed it's ways. So how come you seem in so many ways the exact things that nurses have come to know and expect. Although I hope that out right fabrication of lies is just representative of you. In the past, the ANA was known to just disregard what nurses had to say. It seems that this is the case here with you as well.

"Must just be me lying & not you objecting to the fact that financial help will be available to what the ANA has identified as "disadvantaged students and under-represented minority groups in the profession" (including men) - those that you have called "targets", "welfare mothers", "socially and economically challenged women", "with low self esteem and other negative personality problems they come with", "take a count of who is standing in WIC lines at the health clinic", "notice who is paying with food stamps at the grocery store", "do you really want your life to be in the hands of someone who doesnt want to be there?", etc, etc (do a search & read your own posts). Sounds like complaints to me & they imply that people receiving public assistance are undesirable as nursing students . " JT, again with the lies. This was said in reference to a question posed by December in which I was referring to the number of people and nothing else. You really are good with twisting the truth. Why does that not surprise me? OH, I know why, because you are a liar. Believe me if that would have been anywhere close to what I was wanting to say, then I would have come right out and said it. I do not think anyone would ever accuse me of being suttle.

Jt when a person out right lies not just once but twice. Then it makes them a liar. I asked you to prove your remarks that you made and you refused. I have directly confronted you about this and yet you still refuse. JT, YOU are a liar. I for one do not take much stock in what a known liar says. I think anyone who has read your comments is pretty sure that this was not accidental. It appears that you have gotten caught in your lies and now you are blowing as much smoke as you can to hide from them.

nurses right now are changing things. There is a lot that has just started to happen and we are getting their attention. There is one thing to remember, legislation can be a double edge sword in that it can cut both ways. The CEOs are protected in that they can always say that the facilities are near collapse and site the need for this or that. Look around on this board and see how nurses are being treated. Do you think that having a whole bunch more new nurses who are under financial and contractual obligation is going to strengthen us in the long run? We actually have a lot of bargaining power right now to change things from the inside out. Also do not forget that there is legislation to increase the limits on foriegn nurses as well. So not forget that when outsiders attempt to fix things that we might not like the way they do it. Check out the legislation that in Minn that has put limits on how much nurses can get paid who choose to work in LTCs. This pay might be directed at agency nurses, but do you think that the LTCs will now raise wages for regular staff? Look at the topic "Cleveland Clinic destroys wages" under this section of the board. If that works once, do you think that it will not be copied again? Do you think these employers in Cleveland are motivated to change things now? I think you will understand this. If I have a fire burning I can contol it in a way to achieve a result such as heat the house of to 80 degrees, then I can use everything available to quickly extinquish it. I could also just put it out anytime and hope that the house will warm up. If we fixed the underlying problems, then all nurse would start recruiting on their own and it would also be seen as good career choice as well. Remember this legislation also targets the unemployed and High School grads as well. When I asked who would jump at a chance for an all expense paid education including child care and a little extra money on the side, then you saw the answer I got. Many of us were looking for things to change around do to the power of the nursing shortage. No shortage means, no direct attention from our employers, and no real motivation to have to change things. If an existing nurse does not like the way things are then they will either have to deal with it or leave. Not a problem, the legislation will insure that another person will be paid to come in and take their place. There is no guarantees that the additional legislation will be passed or at least will not be changed when it is strongly opposed. This is a going to be a big gamble and there is only one group that can actully suffer if it does not work. Nurses.

Nurse4kids, I have said this when talking about some existing female nurses. This is a human condition that many people suffer from when they have to rely on someone else for support. Nursing even has a diagnosis for it is called Hopelessness and Powerlessness. If you do not think that some if not a lot of the individuals will not be have esperienced the effects, then who is more likely to? This is not what JT was insinuating to and we both know that. "several low comments about welfare lines and food stamps." Yes I said this and if I was a CEO or CFO and wanted to keep pay to a bare minimum as well as keep control, then I would exploit this to my personal benefit. In fact, in many ways that has been exactly what they have been doing for years. Do you know what happens when you suddenly get twice as much as you had before? You are grateful and happy even if it is only half of what you should be getting. Do you start sudenly start rocking the boat asking for more? The pay will be the same upon entering but progress can slow down or stagnate. Not just pay, but also movement toward fixing the basic working conditions. I have never said anything about restricting education or opportunities to anyone. I have said that we should pick our problems first so that we can improve the profession for those who could then enter it. And yes, I did say if we fixed the problems that we might not need this legislation in the first place.

Jt you continue to stoop lower and lower. I have been more than clear about my reason for my opposition to this legislation and it has nothing to do with my own self interest. It is about interests of all existing nurses who could pay the long term price for this legislation in more ways than one. You have the nerve to again try and fabricate stuff that is not true in regards to something that I did not say about people on welfare. You prove it then.

    becoming a nurse

Nate, First of all a PA is a Physician's assistant and is not a nurse. PAs follow the medical model. NP is a Nurse Practitioner and they follow the nursing model. Depending on the individual state one or the other can have more or equal authority/freedom. To get in to a PA program you have to have in most places a BS. To become a NP in most places you have to have a BSN. In other words become a registered nurse first in including the clinical experiences. In California, one college has a dual PA/NP program but you have to be a registered nurse to enter into the NP portion. If you have intentions on going in those directions then you might want to check out Physical Therapy as well. They are all about the same length of time. And all are in high demand. Some other fields within health care are Occupational Therapy, Radiology, and Administration. The demand is high in these areas as well.

    nursing career

Nate, debbyed is right. Lazzyness runs equally in both sexes. Most of us work our asses off. If you like to work and at a fast pass plus see something new every day or even every hour, then work in the ER. You never know what might even walk through the door. That is if you choose to come into nursing. You need to check out the another section on this board "Would you recommend nursing as a career?" https://allnurses.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=87

    Administrator's Salaries

"Both sides" This sums up the underlying climate in respect to labor unions. Staff nurses on one side and Nurse Managers, Director's of Nursing, and Nursing Administators on the other. Need I say more about this and how the labor union philosopy pits nurse against nurse. Can't we come up with a better way without this happening? Remember that you are not likely to get much help from those you battled against yesterday. Not likely at all, especiallly with the way dislikes are manufactured and how long grudges are held in this profession. Some of you guys can be catty, I think that is the PC word, and it can be about something as a silly as a pair of shoes, a hair style, or just someone new, and worse of all it interferes with work and getting the job done. And I have seen just how well and quickly compromise take place and how quickly bad feeling are resolved. And I have seen the paper wars with grievences and personal write ups.

    Administrator's Salaries

donmurray, Maybe things are a bit different in England. Here if everyone won and it was truly about a joint and mutual partnership, then there would be no reason to strike. Nor would there be a reason to threaten a strike the next time the contract came up. Actually there would be no reason for a union in the first place.

Intelligent Happy? I made a spelling error. My guess is that it was intelligible enough for everyone else to understand. It was not the first and it will not be the last.

    Administrator's Salaries

Jt, how many times must I tell you that I have work and paid my dues within a labor union made up of registered nurses? It does create an adversarial role between nurses and it also does create segregation. It creates a division from regular staff nurses and those in mangament and administration. So I guess all the grievences that are written because management did this or did not allow this is a way of showing love to one another? I guess having to have a union steward present to witness a meeting between a staff nurse and a nurse manager is a show of trust and respect?
