  1. Im having a bit of trouble finding "the perfect" nursing diagnosis for my scenario A 65 year old African American man goes to weekly hypertension clinic for blood pressure checks. He has a 20 year old history of smoking 2 packs of cigarettes a day. His father died from heart disease and his brother has hypertension and diabetes. His current blood pressure reading is 144/108, -he is complaining of headache and dizziness, slurred speech and numbness on left arm . This client is admitted to the unit. The physician is ruling out the possibility of a stroke Initially i was going with a hypertension diagnosis but in my care plan books it only has at risk for decreased cardiac output. I also thought the pt may be exhibiting TIA but thats not for me to decide i assume. With all of that being said here are the two diagnosis i came up with. 1. Decreased cardiac output r/t vasoconstriction aeb Blood pressure of 144/108, dizziness, altered mental status (Slurred speech) Thoughts: I feel like decreased cardiac output and vasoconstriction are oxymorons. i get that initially the heart may overcompensate but shouldn't the ultimate effects of cardiac output be vasodilation/ low bp because its not pumping effectively? 2. ineffective cerebral tissue perfusion related to decreased cardiac output as evidenced by dizziness, slurred speech and numbness in left arm Thoughts: Can i even use this because the docs ruled out stroke? Can i form my nursing diagnosis like this? Basically having one NANA domain being because of another NANDA domain.
  2. Is anyone going this weekend to the one on Broadway by any chance?
  3. I believe in you @godblesss111 you will prevail. Congrats @hopingforthebest.
  4. Omg I got in! Everyone check the mailboxes they are here today! Lol I'm so excited and I'm hoping that we'll support each other while in class together!
  5. I just called the bio department and they say there's been an extension on grades. They said we should receive a score by Monday the latest. So I'm wondering if that means the nursing letters will be mailed out later now.
  6. My a&p 2 grades have yet to be posted. This is the longest I've ever waited for a grade. A class member told me miss celie (not sure if correct spelling) told him. I'm surprised they even shared that info. But I'm crossing my fingers for all of us!
  7. Currently GPA: 3.7 taken @ MEC: math A, Chem A-, chem lab A+, Cis A, a&p 1 lab: A-, a&p B, a&p 2 grade IP, a&p lab IP Taken at other colleges: psych A, English A- Nln was 141 even with all of that, there is still no guarantee. I heard people with nln scores in the 80's got interviewed even though they supposedly only interviewed applicants with 100+. honestly I'd say apply for the program but also apply for other cuny programs. Get an e-permit to take classes at 2 schools to better your odds at getting in to at least 1.
  8. Hi godbless111 I applied for the program as well! So hopefully we both get in. I actually called them because it's been about a month since the interview and they told me letters were being mailed out Thursday morning. Hopefully we hear good news by Saturday.
