  1. Hello all, After 2 long tortuous years, I have failed out of nursing school. By 2 points. On my last day. Valencia College is a very hard program but I had a 81% in the class, I passed all my tests and on thelast day the gave us 2 tests back to back and the HESI was worth around 399 points which was clearly enough to bring me down to failing. So after talking to the Dean who gave zero care, and the board of nursing, who couldn't do anything I was left with nothing. Not even a high enough GPA to apply to another nursing school in the state of FLORIDA. SOOOOO now I am so lost and don't know if anyone else has had any luck with Herzing? They said I could "test out" and skip the semester if I passed the final exam they give their students and passed a skills check off. Only downside is the cost. Before I go $40k in debt, I'd like to hear opinions and make sure there's no other options for nursing after failing a program. And I was in my last semester.
  2. Yeah I couldn't understand him either I have my own accent, should be interesting. I guess well find out the first week of class. I went to campus today to get ID, labkit, parking decal and they turned me away saying they misinformed us in orientation that we can't get our ID until the first week of class and you can't get the labkit until August 5..I was so mad.
  3. just the professor and what hospital they go to for clinicals. I really wanted red team but the seats filled up so fast
  4. does anyone want to switch from red team to silver team?
  5. does anyone want to switch from red team to silver?
  6. and any watch with a second hand. I got an all white casio. Water Resistant of course for our hand washing.
  7. Yes, the "scrubs" are all white clinical uniform and they are only at that store, all uniform wear. They are embroidered and say Valencia college nursing student on them and they embroider the pants too with a VC. the khakis are just regular dickies you can get those anywhere. A girl in the program was in the uniform store when I was and she said she was 3 weeks in and still never wore her clinical uniform so anyone using fin aid can wait till orientation at least. I wish I only bought one pair and not two. They were pricey for low quality.
  8. I forgot all about my highschool shots! Yes! I already bought my clinical uniform and khakis. The place we buy the uniforms from is called all uniform wear on crystal lake by Florida mall. They have a section there for Valencia. I bought 2 pair of white clinical scrubs and one pair of khakis and it was just under $200. The pants are super see thru and super cheap quality so I suggest buying some nude granny panties too. They also have the scissors we need, blood pressure cuff, all white shoes, and other nursing supplies. I should be all finished with shots and finger prints by this weekend! Getting more and more excited!
  9. I got my watch from walmart for like $17 with their price match guarantee :) a nice white casio
  10. Everyone said Dansko were the best but they were sooo expensive. Maybe I'll have to buy a pair when I finish the first semester lol I am way behind compared to you guys :/ It's seriously like pulling teeth trying to get shot records, I still need a lot of shots clearly. I go Thursday to get my drug test. Where is everyone going for fingerprints? It gave me 4 more requirements once I uploaded that waiver.
  11. They are still pricey. The main one I wanted to start on was the fundamentals of nursing I believe that will be our main textbook and it was still in the $180's. I guess I can at least wait till orientation to find out for sure. I'm so excited for it, it will all be real then! Less then a month away!
  12. I was going to start buying books now if I find a good deal (I was wanting to wait to use my grant money first) but it is super cheap to rent them. I know they're always good to look back on but there's like 22 books on that list:unsure: Do y'all think it's worth the extra money to just buy the book or can I get away with renting them for hundreds less? Just trying to see what everyone else is doing. I'm a single mom so every penny counts!
  13. If you go to the west campus bookstore website Find it  » Add it  » Buy it | Valencia College Campus Store put in our program and it will list all the books required and optional for nursing
  14. The stethoscope can be whatever kind and color you want. I got breast cancer edition pink littman with my daughters name engraved on it (my motivation and that way it can't get mixed up with anyone else's) I bought mine at medisave online for like $69. You also need a blood pressure cuff while you're at it.
  15. are you buying any of the books yet to start reading or your going to wait? I'm so scared I've heard that the first test covers 20 chapters and all my friends already in the program said to start reading now because you only have time to review the chapter once.
  16. I'm sure you're relieved. Wait till you start on all the tasks they've given us to complete by August ha!
  17. weird I was accepted in May. Did you confirm your seat to Celena within the time period? I emailed a lot as well and they never replied...you might need to go in a talk to an advisor maybe?
  18. Yeah the background check is all online. August 1st is the only deadline I saw. I made an appointment at Labcorp already to get it done as soon as I can. These vaccinations and gathering all the records is such a headache.
  19. aww i just had finger prints done too I wish they could just use those instead of going thru all the hassel again.
  20. I got mine today! I started the background check and realized that I need a lot more shots then I thought I did I am still really excited and can't wait to start. They say the first week is rough with all the adjustments and reading. I wish I could afford to buy the books now to get a head start
  21. each titer is $50 and you need 4 The background check was $190 and you only have a certain amount of days to go get the drug test done after you submit it which I wish I would have known before so I could have planned better. There's 12 things on the checklist to get done before August 1....on top of buying everything. Thankfully I did my CPR class last weekend so that's out of the way. Next big thing will be the dr visit then orientation will be here!
  22. it's basically like $55 for each vaccination
  23. you need hep b series - 3 shots, MMR, Varicella, TDAP, FLU then it says HEP B, rubella, rubeola, varicella titer and PPD centra care is offering all those at discounted rates (which isn't much of a discount in my opinion!) and they will be at orientation as well. Orientation is from 10-12 the 17th and they will have vendors there following to set us up with our polos and the FIT respirator mask. Make sure if your using fin aid you get it squared away now. As long as it says nursing pending financial aid doesn't see that as an eligible program. She said it would take 3-5 to process that change.
  24. I just got an email from Celena with a whole bunch of papers to print out about compliance and orientation. Looks like they want everything to be done by August 1st:eek: There is a lot of paper work your Doctor has to sign off on. It included directions for back ground check as well. Won't be long now!! So excited to start!
  25. I was also accepted for fall! I got a little ahead of myself and got the shoes, uniforms, stethoscope and I also went on the bookstore website and started buying the books that are required. I found the dosages and calculations books at barnes and noble for $2! So far my friends that are in the program recommend the davis book for success. I take the CPR/BLS class this Saturday (it's from 9-5 ) Only 43 days left till orientation!
