Can scientific types go into nursing?
DoeRN, Im just wondering. Knowing what you know now and looking back do you think Respiratory Therapist may have been a better fit for your personality? Im thinking because your usually only with the patient a limited amount of time when your a RT. Or do you think nursing is still the better fit?

Nursing Shortage: Yea or Nay?
No more nurse shortage? Surplus projected for 2025

Not the right fit
What was the specialty? Was it ER? I've heard you need to be very confident and not afraid to speak up in that area.

Is this what nursing is really like?
So, I hope to start nursing school next spring. I have worked as a cna and I know I will enjoy the technical aspects and practical skills involved with nursing (giving meds, dressing wounds, injections, IV's, tube feedings etc.) Anyhow, I ran into a friend that has been a RN for 7 years now and she tells me the majority of her day is like being a "administrative assistant to 6 people at once". She goes on to tell me how she needs to be responsible for everything and coordinate care for all the departments involved with her patients care. Do guys agree with her opinion. Does nursing really feel like being a administrative assistant to 6 people at once? If so.....I'm not so sure I would like that.

Quiet Hospitals?
I recently read an article that stated hospitals are try to enact designated "quiet times" due to bad survey scores. The article went on to state that scored have improved due to these quiet times. One of the hospitals mentioned was St. Joeseph's in Chicago. Im wondering, does your hospital do anything to address the noise levels and how noisy do you think your hospital is in general? Are these "quiet times" really necessary in your opinion? Do nurses every get reprimanded for making too much noise?

Itt, unfair exit Hesi policy
I do not think the ITT Tech exit policy is unfair UNLESS you were not informed about it before you started your porgram..

RN vs RT
So here is my story. I am 44, married with 2 kids. My youngest is going off to college this Aug. and now it is finally my time to start my career. For the past 24years I have primarily been a stay at home mom. Our family has been living off my husbands income and for the most part, we live week to week. Im not going to lie, its been tough but we are a happy family and our kids are well adjusted and our marriage is strong so I feel the sacrifices we've made where the right choices for us. With that said, I am now trying to decide between the RN program at our local community college and the RT (respiratory therapy) program. Does anyone here have experience with BOTH professions? What do you feel the job market will be like for both in the next 5-10 years and if you were my age and know what you know now, which profession would you choose? Thanks all! Your feedback is so appreciated. Meadow
