  1. Hi, Without knowing the questions they are going to ask I would be at a loss as how to help. They will probably ask you questions about staffing, response to a crisis, what to do if..., how to handle confilct and things like this. Charge is more about being able to deal with crisis and conflict management and a bit about management depending on the size of the facility. Good luck and hope it goes well.
  2. I am a current LPN instructor and here in MN we are still using them in the rural settings. Hospitals will go through phases and get rid of the LPNs only to realize that the shortage is still here and will need to hire them back at some point. I do think its a good stepping stone to the RN program but at times feel like the LPNs are so trained in skills that its hard to break them of that habit and get them to assess their patients once they become an RN. Just what i have seen being both an instructor and an educator in the hosptial.
  3. General information about roles and responsibilities of a charge nurse. We are a critical access hospital and the charge nurse might be the only "administrative" person on staff. I have all the stuff I want to include for our hospital specifics so I guess I am just looking for general stuff.
  4. Hello all, I am putting together a charge nurse program and can't really find anything very useful out on the web or in my books. Do any of you have a power point presentation that I can "borrow" from? I really don't want to reinvent the wheel :uhoh21: Any information would be good - I have only been in the position of nurse educator for about 7 months and have already had to create 3 new programs from scratch. Starting to get carpal tunnel syndrom.
  5. Here are a couple for you to try. http://www.nnsdo.org and http://www.nursingworld.org/ancc/certification/catalogs.html The first is the org for nurse educators with books and other information to buy. The second is to get certified in nursing professional development. Good luck
  6. Cal does not have reciprocity as of yet, so that means you would have to apply to a seperate license in CA as well as Utah. The other thing is you could take the NCLEX in CA and pass the boards there. Its a pain in the butt to take the NCLEX in another state as there is usually extra paperwork. I used to live in CA but recently moved to MN and had to relicense. Go to the CA board of nursing web site for more information.
  7. As a military nurse part time (ANG) I can tell you that its a great way to get some extra training and experience you wouldn't normally get on the "outside". I was active duty ARMY enlisted for 4 years and wouldn't do it again. I joined the Air National Guard in 91 nad haven't regretted a single bit of it. The ANG has a program for 2 year nurses the same as the ARMY reserves in that you have to get your BSN within a set time frame (not sure what that is). I commissioned in '02 at age 35, so don't worry about the age thing. Good luck and enjoy.
  8. It is great to see a board just for educators. I am a hospital based nurse educator for a small (24 bed) hospital in central MN and one of 3 male RN's. I have just begun this job and have previous ICU and MS experience. I am trying to pull it all together to help educate the entire nursiing staff from ER to OR so any assistance would be great!
