  1. Great Advice! I really appreciate it. Will be taking the "general ICU" offer. Thanks!
  2. All things being fairly equal, which ICU would you consider good for starting my critical care experience in: Neuro or General ICU? I'm transitioning from MedSurg to ICU and would love some advice on that. My goal is to do ICU travel nursing in 2-3 years. Is Neuro too specialized?
  3. I considered Lone Star College as my backup actually. Yes, their NCLEX pass rate isnt as high as I want it to be. But I have 2 things to say about this. First, the pass rate actually varies from campus to campus: Kingwood, Cy-Fair, North Harris... I dont remember which one is higher and lower anymore, but something to look into. Second, I believe a large part of NCLEX pass rate is what u put into it. 8 people out of 10 are doing something right, stick with them!
  4. Dont be scared and have a backup plan. IMHO -If someone doesnt get into BSN program right away, then it's better to get ADN and then RN-BSN than waiting. But every situation is different.
  5. Make sure u take HESI with "Critical Thinking"section bc most nursing programs now require it. Also, 28 on FB may not reflect those who were accepted during last cycle of applications. Some applicants get rejected for current term, waitlisted and accepted for next term. Not sure if this explanation makes sense, but we just dont know how many people would be in that pool.
  6. I think I agree with you on this. Their window to notify is very short, till Nov 15 if I remember correctly.
  7. I got an acceptance email from UT-Health saying that the profile will change later. As far as waitlist for Spring 2016 goes, my logical assumption is thats the pool of people to draw from. How they decide who to pick from that list - I am not sure about.
  8. @ lsizemore2015 haha I was just messing with ya
  9. Perhaps there is going to be an official FB page made by the school. UTMB did it after they completed all acceptances. I'd wait a little.
  10. only ladies? what about gentlemen? or others? :)
  11. Looks like I just got accepted to UT-Heath. I think I will take it. Should be good news for those who are on the UTMB waitlist for Spring 2016.
  12. got accepted too! wait is over. Congrats to all who been accepted. Good Luck to rest.
  13. well... I put down that I am a number one, top of the list, king of the hill, top of the heap, and a big Sinatra fan. I hope thats enough.
  14. @ckcox WOW. Thats a lot of info. Thanks for compiling. I agree that it may not make sense. But it makes no sense because the info is incomplete. We do not know: (1) where those applicants went to school - University vs Community College, UT System vs Other University, Texas School vs Out of State School. (2) how many class retakes applicants had to boost their GPA (3) HESI retakes - may matter, may not (4) extracurricular activities (5) other experiences that could increase their value to UTHealth They look at numbers but, behind the numbers is a real person, and they look at that too. I think.
  15. ah so it was anxiety. not stress. I get it now.
  16. Wow. Why is everyone stressing out so much? Not to be critical, but if you can't handle the stress of waiting to get into nursing school how will you deal with many stresses of being a nurse? Like being in ER when a patient in critical condition comes in and its a life and death situation... Relax, have backup plans if you do not get in. Not the end of the world.
  17. I know many of us are stressed out right now about admissions. I just wanted to say that what helped me in making this process a lot LESS stressfull is having a plan B, and even Plans C, D and E, if I did not get into UTH. UTMB is my plan B (where I got in). TWU was plan C, Then UT-Tyler and finally Lone Star College ADN program. I ended up not applying or even completing applications to some programs I mentioned here because of early acceptance to UTMB (their deadline is early in May and they accepted me in the summer). I know that circumstances are different, but it can be more stressful if we put "all eggs in the same basket." And as we know stress is not good for health.
  18. I think the school is fairly well organized but I am biased cuz I got accepted back in July. But I also feared that my old bachelors with 3.4 GPA was going to drag down the overall GPA. I have 4.0 on all my nursing pre-reqs. I dont think it happened. This is a career change for me also. They did not seem to view that as a disadvantage. On the contrary, during the interview, I explained how my experiences can benefit my nursing career. I am also thinking about a nurse practitioner route in the future and the commenter with CPA skills can really be awesome at running her own clinic efficiently! If you are waitlisted, hang in there. Keep in mind that many spaces will probably free up because UTMB was not everyone's first choice at least because of commute from Houston. I am still waiting to hear from another school because I would prefer not to move from Houston.
  19. How many applicants did they have for Spring 2016?
  20. @Kmiguez Thanks! I have pretty close to 4.0 on Nursing Pre-reqs, HESI is 94% and CT 820.
  21. I looked at a previous thread for UTHSC (Spring 2014) and found that people started getting acceptance emails mid-October. So, hopefully we do not have too long to wait! Also, I saw that someone with very high scores got a denial: GPA 3.8, HESI 94%, CT 900.... At the same time someone with lower scores got accepted. That's a bit discouraging and confusing of course, but who knows, maybe they did not have all of their pre-requisites complete or correctly accounted for. Or maybe there were some other reasons. At least we can all find out soon, in 2-3 weeks according to the thread, and start making plans. https://allnurses.com/texas-nursing/uthsc-traditional-bsn-817473-page35.html
  22. gee I am starting to feel better that I decided to have a fallback option of going to UTMB if I dont get accepted in UTHSC
  23. Sounds like its gonna be Trick or Treat
  24. maybe it means that if people who get accepted to another school for Spring 2016 decide to go there instead of UTMB then they will pick someone from the priority wait list? Maybe...
