CatEnthusiast, I am graduating in Oregon in June and want to work in CA. Although I haven't done it yet, I think you can apply early based on this wording on the CA BRN website: "If you submit your application to the Board prior to graduation you may receive a letter from the Board indicating that you are missing final transcripts with posted degree. Please do not panic as this is only to let you know that your application has been received and an initial evaluation of your application has been conducted. The Board is aware that the school will submit final transcripts with posted degree after graduation." It doesn't say anything about CA schools only. I think the confusion comes from the application having instructions for "CA non-graduates". This is not non CA graduates like us. CA non-graduates refers to people who are in a nursing program and have met all the nursing requirements, but might be missing some non-nursing classes to graduate. Those people can actually sit for the test. So I say start early. I understand that sending in fingerprints from out of state can take months.

Mine is a future plan, since I will be graduating in September this year. Since I'm just making an educated guess on whether I have this right, I would appreciate any feedback. I am graduating from Nursing School in Or, but want to get registered in Ca. I've already set up an interview in my home town hospital, so I'm hoping for the best. I put in a lot of detail because I don't want to forget a step. March 2016 (this is way early, but I'll be in CA for spring break and I haven't seen anything that says you can't do live scan early) • Live Scan • Take 2x2 photo June 2016 (when California prospects firm up) • Send in 2-page application ($200 including temp permit) ○ Attach 2x2 photo ○ Attach 2nd copy of Live Scan receipt • Send request for transcripts to non-nursing undergrad to be sent to BRN Summer 2016 • Receive letter from BRN that will say application received but missing nursing school transcripts • Request transcript from Nursing School to be sent to BRN upon graduation Early September 2016 • Graduate Nursing School • Verify transcript from Nursing School was sent to BRN Late September 2016 (a few weeks after receipt of Nursing School transcripts?) • Receive temporary permit • Receive approval from BRN to register for NCLEX • Start working at hospital (!) on temporary permit, must be supervised by RN • Register for NCLEX ($200?) with Pearson Vue (maybe do this earlier?) • Take NCLEX October-November 2016 • Receive notice of passing NCLEX • Receive RN

I'm not in that cohort but I know from experience that Facebook groups can be hard to find until you are a member, especially from and iPad or phone app. From a laptop or desktop, search for the group in the Facebook search box. It might show no results. Click "more" then "groups" and the result should appear.
