I live in Illinois right across the river from St. Louis and teachers do make more money here. Teachers starting out in my town make almost 40K a year while nurses starting out make only 33K a year and the teachers get the summer off! There is something wrong with that!

Are you a teacher?

Most people can't imagine it either when they relocate. The major hospitals in St. Louis only pay 17.00 to nurses starting out.

I was so mislead about nurses salaries. I calculated that and it was only 31,000 dollars a year, since St. LOuis hospitals only pay 17.00/hr. THat is hardly enough to support a family. I think I"ll be a teacher. Make more money and get the summers off

Do most nurses only work 32 hours a week? I am a nursing student and keep getting mixed messages. Just wondering if they worked that or 40 hours a week?

I have also thought about getting a teaching degree and then getting an associates in nursing and working in the summers. The thing that really turns me off about nursing is working holidays. THe thought of not being able to spend Christmas with my family stinks.

Why would you go back and be a teacher?

I am currently a sophmore in college and I either want to apply for nursing or teacher in the upcoming fall. I am confused as to what I should do. The thing i like about teaching is that I will someday have a family and have holidays, weekends, summers off, etc. I thought I wanted to do nursing until I discovered that many nurses hate their jobs. I was also led to believe that nurses made more than teachers but some information says that teachers make more and they only work 10 months out of the year. Is this true? I am just really confused and need some advice.

I am a prenursing student. I plan on entering the nursing school at my university in fall 06. Could you tell me what some of the realitites of nursing are? I have always heard such great things about it. I have an aunt and a cousin who are nurses and they both love it. Thanks
