  1. Jaycam Is there a specific calculation/dosage conversion book you use? Also I've heard that nursing schools test you before every quarter and you can't continue unless you pass. Is that true?
  2. Let me tell you... I was just like you. Got all C's in high school took as many easy classes I could to graduate. But your performance in high school shouldn't deter you. Once I knew I wanted to go to nursing school I realized how much more I like college level classes and their structure. I ended up with a 3.8 gpa while taking the teachers who had reputations for being the most difficult. I let my dreams drive me and the rest fell into place.
  3. If someone with an 86 got into fall already our chances look good. Hoping for the best anyway.
  4. I know right? I did the same. Crossing my fingers to get bumped up to fall!
  5. Does anyone that got in also have other schools they applied to? Is Bellevue everyone's first choice?
  6. She emailed me back right away. They're working on the issue and she said to try again after 1pm today.
  7. I got the error message too. Emailing Melissa Meinhofer right now.
  8. For those of you that are curious I got an 86 on my TEAS. The grammar part at the end really screwed me even though I got 100% on both the math and reading portions. So happy and excited for everyone that got in!
  9. Got my letter. Winter quarter! I'm so happy. I just did a victory dance and cried.
  10. Jaycam, How competitive are students for grades? Do teachers ever give statistics or post students grades for exams in public? Are the teachers at least good at giving progesterone reports or current grades?
  11. Perfect. Red is definitely my color. I'm starting to think not as many people applied to Bellevue this year. What a dead forum.
  12. I'm kind of curious. What do they expect you to bring to clinicals. Also what color scrubs are we going to need? I hope we don't have some tacky color like teal. Lol
  13. Jaycam thank you for all the info! One more month guys. It can't come soon enough.
  14. So what you're saying is class and clinicals are always on weekdays? So working Saturday and Sunday every week is possible?
  15. I am planning on getting my BSN directly after my ADN program. The same college that offers the ADN program also offers the RN-BSN bridge. My long term goal is to go to graduate school and become an NP. My question is, does the school you received your BSN matter? The school I plan on receiving it from is just recently gaining accreditation from the CCNE and its program doesn't have the same repuation as the local university. Will it be a factor when applying to schools out of state such as Emory, Vanderbilt, etc. I would love to hear any and all opinions/tips. Thank you!
  16. Thank you for your response! Does the first quarter have a lot of information learned in NAC class then? So your don't start clinicals unail second quarter?
  17. Hi Jaycam, I was wondering if you think working would be doable during the first quarter of nursing school. Also how rigorous is the curriculum so far?
  18. I would record every single lecture and play it in the background while I was studying/ making notes from the book. This made it so the key information my professor went through would come through while I was studying. I did not listen to lectures consciously, just let myself reabsorb what was in class. I also took good notes during class and never missed a lecture. Once I got home I opened the book and used Youtube (especially khan academy) to focus on subjects I had a hard time comprehending. Also work on quizzing yourself. If your textbook has questions in the back of the book use them. I would then make flashcards using sections headings as questions and quiz myself that way as well. This sounds like a lot but I was really only spending 2-3 hours a day studying for this class. Good luck to you and if you have any other questions feel free to message me!
  19. I took my CNA course at the Nursing Assistant Training Institute in Shoreline. It came highly recommended by other CNA's I know and the program is cheaper and shorter than a quarter at BC. It was a good program and the skills teachers got right to the point. Here is the link to their website: Nursing Assistant Training Institute |
  20. What classes/entrance exams do you have left? I've finished all of my prereqs as of fall 2014. The program I applied to doesn't start until this fall so I start the long wait until classes finally start. I loved my prereq classes especially Human A&P, the science classes really solidified my choice to become a nurse and a lifetime learner. When will you begin submitting applications? I've already submitted my application to my #1 choice. I submitted it in the beginning of February and have a long wait until the beginning of May. If I don't get in then I will start looking at other programs since there are plenty in my area with rolling enrollment. How many programs will you be applying to? I am only applying for 1 right now. If I don't get in I am applying to 2 more schools in the area that have less competitive admission criteria than my #1 choice. They are still great programs with great reputations. Have you already been accepted into a program? Not yet. Like I said previously I have a long wait until the beginning of May. I'm hoping it will come sooner but in past years it has taken that long to get a letter.
  21. I realize I never introduced myself. I applied for admission into fall quarter full time. I've been working applying for nursing school the past year, it took me a few years at Bellevue to figure out what I really want to do. Currently taking my CNA class and going to look for a job right after to start working around nurses and gain experience. My long term goal is to continue to get my BSN then eventually grad school and work as an NP, maybe work as a traveler in between. I'm interested in hearing about everyone else's long/short term goals and why you chose nursing school.
  22. Yes. Shoot for a TEAS score of 90 and you should be good.
  23. Bellevue only looks at the TEAS score and makes sure you've met the minimum requirements. They rank applicants based on their score and use GPA to decide between two applicants in case they have a tie.
  24. It usually isn't recommended that you take both of the courses together since they are, in my experience, the most difficult pre reqs I had to take. I relied heavily on learning objectives and note cards. I don't know what text book you have or what teacher but I do know that my textbook had learning objectives before each chapter/section. I would write the learning objective down and then answer it in great detail. I would then listen to the lecture I recorded on the same topic and put the most important information on a flashcard with the learning objective as a questions. This method was time consuming but I received A's in both A&P 1&2 using this method. Also, prepare before class. Read through vocabulary words on the system you are about to learn in order to familiarize yourself with the material, that also helps it sink in. Good luck!
  25. Who is your teacher currently? I highly recommend Jim Ellinger for A&P. He's hard but worth it. Diane Mauldin is a great Microbiology teacher and she's also difficult. Both teachers have a reputation for preparing students best for their nursing programs.
