Having some difficulty making my first job decision. Please help!
I need to make a decision, which may be before I hear back from the other place. & I didn't mention, but I also received a job offer at another hospital (Wellstar). I didn't get a good feeling at this hospital so I didn't mention it. The person who interviewed me there did not show up, and someone else had to come see me (30 minutes later than my appointment time).

Having some difficulty making my first job decision. Please help!
Hi, everyone. I just graduated from nursing school and recently moved to Atlanta, GA. I no nobody in this area except for my family since I'm not from here. I do not have a car and intent to get around by public transit & Lyft. I'm unsure of what type of specialty to pursue & want to gain work experience at the moment. I have received a job offer from Emory & interviewed at Piedmont; I need to have an answer to Emory by Monday & am still waiting to hear back from Piedmont. I received a job offer at Emory's residency program at the care initiation unit. It's a 2 year commitment. The first year consists of classes and training (in this case, emergency services training), then the second year I'd be a regular full time employee with the freedom to try to transfer to another unit. An advantage to the CIU is that everybody is off on the holidays. I think that Emory would be a great place for networking, because I'd be working on the college campus with access to the campus' facilities and activities. I have no friends here, so Emory would be a good place to meet other young, educated people. The 2 year commitment is a little daunting to me, especially as someone who isn't from Atlanta & is just getting adjusted. I interviewed at Piedmont hospital today & I think it went well. They said I'd hear back from them next week & asked me to rank my top 3 choices. I ranked the medical surgical floor first (as I'm interested in surgery), and the nurse manager had me tour the unit. The residency program itself is 9-10 weeks, with a suggested (but not contracted) 1 year commitment. W/ Piedmont, there's more flexibility and less of a commitment.. Everyone I met seemed friendly. It also seemed like a great place to network. So I have to give Emory my decision probably before hearing back from Piedmont... At this point, I do not know which hospital I would rather work at. I'm trying to work it out in my head. I got a good feeling about both hospitals & both are in good areas. I have briefly looked at the benefits for both; they both look good. The pay for Emory is 26/hr & for Piedmont 27/hr. So if anyone has any advice on making this tough decision, please help! Thank you all and I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

U Penn Second Degree ABSN 2017
Yeah, I hope to hear something soon too. I've heard nothing about an interview as of now. I feel tempted to call them about this, but I know it's up to them to choose to interview us and review our application.

Have any of those who applied for just the ABSN program (not ABSN-MSN) heard from them yet?

U Penn Second Degree ABSN 2017
It looks like everyone being reviewed so far applied to the ABSN/MSN program... Looks like they're reviewing those applications first? It's different from when I applied to the ABSN program a couple of years ago. I was invited for an interview I think a month after the application deadline that time. I hope to hear from them soon. I got accepted into Jefferson's FACT 1 year program and am required to make a $500 deposit within 3 weeks, but was hoping to at least hear from all the schools I applied to first.

I've still not heard back about an interview. Has anyone who applied just to the ABSN program heard anything back?

Hello, I've also submitted my application to Penn. I read the e-mail saying that interviews start from Nov 15 & go until January, so still waiting to hear back about that!

Any advice for coping with depression r/t relocating for nursing school?
Thank you. Yes, I agree about having your goals in mind.. I am also determined to move as soon as I graduate. Nursing school is such a stressful time, and it's difficult to get through it without the help of close friends and family. It's easy to get caught up in day to day stressors when you're alone, and it can be hard to maintain a positive attitude. I keep in touch with my people online or call once in a while, but it's just not the same as having them nearby to turn to for emotional support. I guess you just need to be strong and find the strength from within.. Somehow.

Any advice for coping with depression r/t relocating for nursing school?
I went through my 1st semester of nursing school feeling really depressed & stressed. I heard next semester is the hardest, so I really want to get myself together. I need to be ready for this emotionally. I moved to Knoxville, TN a year and a half ago, and still feel like I barely know anyone here. I have acquaintances, but that is all. I've been really shy, but I'm trying to work on that. It's hard to fit in here b/c the culture is so different. I also really miss the big city & all my people. I ended up having my heart broken by a guy who pretended to care about me, but really didn't. So here I am, heart broken, alone, and stuck here for 1 remaining year because of nursing school. I've read self help stuff in the past, & I always hear of the importance of being happy no matter where you are in life, even if you haven't achieved your goals yet. I am determined to excel in nursing school so that I can one day become a great nurse. But I don't have any support nearby, and sometimes it's hard to stay positive. I call my family or friends sometimes, but it's just not the same as having them here. I feel lonely all the time. Does anyone have any advice, or know of any self help stuff that can help get me through this? Any videos that you would recommend?

How to prepare for nursing school?
I didn't mean to have an attitude here and apologize if it came off that way. I just didn't know whether or not the required reading for my program included some other version of the text GrnTea suggested, and was waiting for my program's book list to be released. I'm just so worried about my money situation since I'm already in debt as it is!! But I get going above and beyond to prepare for the program (which is what I intend to do), and if it really will be a lifesaver in my classes then I'll get it. I really do appreciate the suggestions you all have made and will take everyone's advice into account.

How to prepare for nursing school?
ixchel: That isn't what I said and I don't appreciate your attitude. You basically told me to do nothing to prepare, and I said that I want to be productive. If you are going to be snarky, then save it. Thanks for those who have made useful suggestions so far, I will look into the dosage & lab value calculations. I'm also going to review my prerequisite course material before starting the program.

How to prepare for nursing school?
Well I know nothing about lab values or calculations, so I just Googled what they are. I found this site, Nursing Central | Normal Values of Common Laboratory Tests Is this what we would need to memorize? Also.. I would buy that book recommended but am trying to save up before nursing school. I probably will check out the library though and see what nursing books they have. And I'm all for relaxing during the summer break, but I want to be prepared as can be for nursing school, & want to use the time productively. Plus it gets lonely here since it's hard to make any friends & meet people until I start college, and I start to get discouraged sometimes. So I'm also doing this to motivate myself!!

How to prepare for nursing school?
I'm going into nursing for my second degree, and got accepted into a 2-year BSN program entering in the Fall (also wait listed at accelerated BSN programs). So I moved to a new state where I know basically nobody and have no social life. It gets super depressing but I know that it will change when I start the program. Therefore, I have a lot of time to prepare for nursing school this summer and really want to get a head start. For those who have already gone through the program, how would you suggest a pre-nursing student to prepare? How would you have liked to have prepared? I already completed all the prereqs, including A&P, chem, stats, etc. I'm not 100% on which school I'll go to, because of being wait listed, so I can't get the books yet.

UTK ABSN Fall 2015
Wow, I didn't think they'd give out acceptance letters until mid-March. That's awfully soon.. Well, I guess it's time for me to apply to LMU

UTK ABSN Fall 2015
Yeah I was wondering if they would have to postpone interviews and the applicant selection process because of this terrible weather... I've taken Nutrition, Developmental Psych, A&P 1, Chem 1, and Stats. I'm currently in the process of completing A&P 2, Microbio, & Bio (for a different college, in case I don't get into UT). And I have the rest scheduled for summer... I live in Oak Ridge which is pretty close to Knox. And well, I found out why I didn't get selected for an interview. I wasn't aware of this, but this whole time my NursingCAS application was incomplete. I thought we only had to send official transcripts to General Admissions, since we manually input our transcripts into the NursingCAS system... So my application is still listed as incomplete and awaiting transcripts. I had all my transcripts rushed over there on Thurs of last week. Courtney told me that I can still send them, but it's up to the nursing committee to decide whether or not to still consider my application.. So I'm trying to get my application verified ASAP :/ I am really hoping they'll still consider me.. I just don't want to completely give up without at least doing whatever I can
