  1. Schoolrn April do you do paperwork or chart in computor?
  2. That sounds very busy to me. I would not want to be told I'm doing a 6 hour day 30 hours a week then work 50- 60 a week. I'm trying to cut my schedule. I was never told anything about salary haven't made that far but in description it's says hourly. I realize things come up, but physically I need 6 hours a day. This concerns me I guess I will wait and see. I'm not a rn but lvn told to travel to other sites don't know if that will be different. Thanks for the input.
  3. thanks everyone! Do you get out on time or is there a lot of overtime? Which I don't want by the way. Do you like your jobs and enjoy going? Do you feel stressed out all the time? The pay sure isn't very good, but the trade off with holidays summers off and getting off at 2;15 is worth it to me. Look forward to hearing from you. THANKS
  4. Are you a RN or Lvn? I'm just curious, because I'm kinda in the same boat. I'm a LVN but i have been one for over 20 years. I applied for a school district position. I have no experience in school. I have some hospital and all doctor office experience and No peds! I'm nervous too. I am going on my 2nd interview. Good luck to you I wish I could help.
  5. one of the reasons I applied is they told me it full benefits with retirement. I guess if you work 30 hours a week you qualify. Thanks for responding.
  6. Hi I just had an interview for a LVN school district position. I had the first interview and it was just questions about what would you do if a coworker didn't like you? You know those kind of questions. Anyway, they called and said they are going to do part 2 which is clinical questions. What kind of stuff do they ask, and what are they mostly looking for? I have never worked in a school so it might be kind of tough for me to get through. I didn't learn much in the first interview about the position other than its a new position they are bringing to their district, and they are deciding what the position entails too. The only thing they told me was that I would be making rounds to the schools and helping with new diabetics, but other than that didn't tell me much else. There are 2 other RN and they said I would be freeing them up and doing some things that I could do under my certificate. I have written here before and I hope I'm not repeating myself. I so appreciate all the feedback you all have given me. I'm just really nervous, but interested in possible changing jobs and having a new schedule. I currently work in a doctors office monday thur thurs 8-5. I have been with the same nurse practitioner for 15 years. If I did get an offer I sure would like to know exactly what I would be doing, before leaving where I'm at. I need better insurance and I do love kids, and a shorter work day. They said it would be 6 hours a day. I don't have a retirement and I have an expensive health plan where I'm at now. I do have great co workers and a very nice boss though. I realize working in a school is a whole different world than a clinic. My post before was about physically able to keep up. I'm busy now, but I don't know if I want to do something that is more stressful and busier than I am now. Going to a few schools everyday on a schedule I could handle, but I wish I had an idea how many kids you would have to deal with. I did ask that question and she said no set limit. Is there that many kids with diabetes and asthma? They did say all the schools have Health aids so thats covered. What is your take. Thanks everyone. I would like a change.
  7. Thanks everyone I hope it's computors, but we will see. Today's interview was just asking those silly questions like what would you do if? I know u have been thur it all. They said next interview is clinical questions. Stressful thanks
  8. Hi I totally understand your concerns. I have been a LVN for about 25 years and about 6 months ago I had a cardiac arrest due to a genetic heart problem. I always had low energy and heart palpitations even when I started the program years ago, but got through the program. I have been working all these years, but now this happening gives me concerns too. I'm back to work now doing ok, but I have been working in a Dr. Office for years. I gave up bedside nursing along time ago. My opinion is bedside nursing is difficult even if your a healthy person. I think being a CNA is harder work than a LVN that is a real physical job. I think if you can find another interest or passion that you have might benefit you more in the long run. Years ago there were plenty of LVN jobs , but now days all anyone wants to hire is RN'S. I think having heart problems gives people high anxiety levels too, because I have worried about my future for years. If you really love the idea of being a LVN there are Dr. office and home care that would be less stressful. Nursing is a stressful job and if its concerning you this much before you have even started you might do some serious soul searching. I wish you the best of luck in your decision.
  9. Hi I am interviewing for a LVN position tomorrow and was just wondering if charting is done electronically? I have never worked in a school before. Where I work now we are doing electronic charting which I know everyone is doing now, but we got started late. I work in a DR. office. I'm so glad to be using the computer after years of paper work and paper charts. I see a lot of posts about having to do a lot of paper work as a school nurse> Does that mean actual paper charts and writing or is everything on computer? I would hate to go backwards again. I appreciate any information. Thanks
  10. I sure appreciate the input so far school nursing is a foreign area to me and who knows they may not want someone with no experience. My main concern is if its so overwhelming I can't keep up. Yes I will ask about the child ratio. Do you think 4500 deductibleIs paying almost 900 a month is terrible? Thanks for all your support and info and I welcome more advice?
  11. A lot I think there are about 6-8 schools .
  12. I believe there are 2 other rn for the district. In the description it read you would travel to different schools. I did think about that physically going to different buildings in a day, but I just wasn't sure how fast pace that is or are you assigned to the some kids that need Rx and tx? I will find out more. I'm scared and go back and forth. My job now is a lot of multitasking, multiple phone calls and procedures and run up down the halls all day. I like my coworkers great boss, but the insurance is terrible and its 8-9 hours aday the school is 6. If your working in a stressful job for 6 hours I'm not sure either. I appreciate your in out thank you
  13. Hi I'm new and need all you school nurses help me to decide if I should change jobs. I'm a lvn and have been working in a Dr office doing women's health care for the last 14 years. I had some heart problems and my energy level is not great but getting better. I have been out for a few months and will be cutting my hours to 32 hours a week 8-5 I have fri off. I have a interview mon for a lvn district nurse. I was interested in the job for a change but mostly for the hours and summers off and better insurance. My insurance now is a 4500 deductible that I pay 900 hundred dollars a month. Is it worth it for the benefits? Even though the pay is less at the school? The insurance with the school sounds really good. A lot less money monthly to pay for insurance and a lot lower deductible .Is the job physical and stressful? Do you get off when your suppose too? My job now is a huge pt load and if I do get a offer I'm not sure what to do. I have to be honest I'm hoping it's not more stressful than what I'm doing now and the benefits are a big factor now that I have some health problems. Thank you for any advice and by the way I do like kids. Thank you so much
