How do you deal with dizziness and syncope?
What are some interventions you usually use to deal with syncope and dizziness? I know checking the blood sugar, and vital signs should be the first you do. Then having the person lie flat and and letting them drink warm water, beef bouillon is another thing to do. What about you? What are your tips and tricks?

Can a manager force you to stay for the next shift if relief does not arrive?
I just want some clarification? Because I was just told by my manager that I would have to stay on shift if they cannot find relief for the next shift because, according to her, the college of nurses of Ontario states that we need to stay on if relief does not arrive. However, when I tried to search for it, could not find anything written in the CNO that pertains to this. I don't have any children but what if I did? What if I had another job that I had to go to the next day? All of these questions rose in my mind. http://www.cno.org/globalassets/docs/prac/41070_refusing.pdf

What are your thoughts on the idea of it taking four years to be an RN?
Had I been let out two years earlier, I could have gone on to do my masters.

What are your thoughts on the idea of it taking four years to be an RN?
I felt like the last two years of my bachelors was a complete money grab for my university as I learned nothing practical or useful and would have completely at ease graduating at the two year mark.

Is it easy to get a job in America than in Canada?
I keep hearing about how American hospitals sometimes pay certain high achieving nursing students their tuition in exchange for locking them in contracts (presumably full-time) after graduation, and how easy it is to find a job in the states. I'm a Canadian nurse currently still a temporary part timer even with 8 months under my belt.
-
How soon did you get your full time job position?
Where are you based? I'm in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

How soon did you get your full time job position?
I currently have 8 months of RN experience under my belt. I'm currently a temporary part timer. Before my current job, I was a permanent part timer. I'm looking to apply for a new job maybe after another year at my current job. Just wondering how long it took for you guys to score a permanent full time job.

Which field of nursing is the most technically hard?
I'm almost 25. I want to try out the hardest type of nursing to challenge myself.
-
Which field of nursing is the most technically hard?
Hard as in the specialty that requires the most amount of critical thinking and the field of nursing which has the fastest pace.

Which field of nursing is the most technically hard?
I have worked in long term care for the past six months and do not require continuing education. It is offered, but not required as entry into the field; whereas, if you look at ER positions, many require a continuing education certificate or will send applicants to CE before letting them work on the job.
-
Which field of nursing is the most technically hard?
I'm thinking either ER or ICU since both fields require continuing education. What, in your experience, is the hardest nursing field?

How likely is it for a Canadian nurse to work in New York City?
What about Hawaii and California? I have heard they are saturated as well, but still remain hopeful.

Which is the standard diabetes test?
We know that hypoglycemia is less 70 mg/dl and hyperglycemia is greater than 200mg/dl. But from what method exactly are we measuring these values because there are several different methods and each with its own set of normal values. Capillary blood (60-110 mg/dL), glucose fasting (70-100 mg/dL), glucose tolerance [baseline fasting (60-100 mg/dL), 60 min fasting (less than 200 mg/dL), and 120 min fasting (70-120 mg/dL]and glucose 2 hour postprandial ( The normal glucose range is 70-100 mg/dL. I am confused as to which of these tests was used to determine the range. Because it looks like it matters since every test yields a different value. I'm assuming it's the capillary test because the values match.

Is it normal to have not retained any information in nursing school
I'm studying the NCLEX and realized that I retained close to nothing in regards to the courses that are related to nursing like anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, health assessment. During school, I also got really bad marks in those subjects. Information seem to go in one ear and out the other. Has anyone been in similar situation? I'm basically starting from complete scratch when studying the NCLEX.

Where can I take the Hesi Exam?
I'm about to take the NClEX exam in two months time. Before I go into the exam, I would like to make sure that I know I will pass considering we only get three tries at the NCLEX in Canada. I know that the HESI is a good measure of whether or not you will pass the NCLEX. I took the HESI in my last semester at University. Unfortunately, now that I have graduated, I do not know how I can take the HESI again in Toronto, Ontario. Is there an online website, or a site or a physical testing center that I may visit to take the HESI exam? Thanks.

What is the worst case of bullying you've seen in your nursing career?
No, this is not a troll post. The clinical director said that every time they sat down, someone took their chair away. Yes, the staff had priority in seating. However, I'm sure there were times when chairs were available. In addition, I've been with the clinical director, she is very helpful and try to make her students helpful to the staff. The unit was so unwelcoming to the students, that it was eventually sealed off by the University. Students were no longer placed there.

What is the worst case of bullying you've seen in your nursing career?
I'm going to start working as soon as I pass the NCLEX. I have heard a lot about bullying in the nursing field. I was wondering what is the most severe form of bullying you've seen in your career? I want to prepare myself psychologically for the worst. For me, I have heard a clinical director speak of one clinical practicum taking place at a hospital where they were ignored by all the staff. They were not even allowed to take a seat because every time someone sat down, a staff would come and take their seat away from them.

Is Emerge nursing harder than medicine, med-surg and rehab?
I asked around and am getting mixed messages. It is hard for people in my school to go into emerg for the final semester of nursing school. It is a restricted You have to have an A average in order to get placed there. I worked at a rehab for my IP, and almost everyone there said that rehab medicine was just as hard as emerg. But at the same time, they often complain about the condescending behaviour shown to them by nurses who worked in emerg during patient transfers. In addition, I talked to a nurse who recently immigrated to Canada, and she said that in her country, the high achieving nurses were picked and placed in emerg, the mediocre students went to med-surg and medicine and the low achieving nurses went into rehab, long-term care. What are your thoughts on this?

Is it normal to be ostracized as a student?
I was in my last semester of nursing school, and there was one nurse at the the hospital in which I was placed at who really didn't like me for whatever reason. She would ignore me at lunchtime, and other nurses who saw this followed (these nurses didn't ignore me when I first came but after they saw her ignoring me, they did the same). And this went on for the entire three months I had been placed there. Then it was made very apparent that she didn't like me when she made a going away party for her student (she's a preceptor), and she poured praise onto the student and I was going away too and she didn't mention me at all. I even caught her cast a sidelong look at me during the whole thing to see my reaction. Has anyone else had similar experiences during their last semester as a student? How would you have reacted in this situation? Would you have taken offense or been able to stand it?

What do you do to improve critical thinking?
After watching a nurse demonstrate a clinical skill, I envision the steps in my mind. In addition, I try to find out the rationale for many of the practises that occur in clinical. You?

What is the most complex clinical procedure you had to do in your career?
As a student in her final year, the most complex clinical procedure for me has to be cleaning and packing a wound. I did this numerous times during clinical. What about you?
