I am so sorry I did not see this, I hope you are now an RN;)

I have seen many people inquiring about getting their license in CA and how long it takes. Well I graduated from a school in Nevada and was discouraged by every single teacher and student that heard I wanted to test for CA. I was told " just get your NV license and then transfer it". Well I graduated December 16th, my awesome school actually did not send out my transcripts like I had requested. I had to call them many times and the CA BON, until on January 4th they were sent out. All of my other information and fingerprints were done in October. I was unrelenting with my calls to the CA BON, it takes forever to get through to someone and the first time that I got through after waiting over an hour, the woman hung up on me and I was devestated. I was told that after they recieve my transcripts they can be in the mail room for 4 to 6 weeks, and then after that they can take another 4 to 8 weeks to process them. My heart was breaking, all of my classmates had already taken the NCLEX it seemed and I felt that I was losing all of my knowledge. I then called the week after on January 11th, to be told that they still were not processing my transcripts. Then I called on January 25th, and the woman I talked to was about to hang up after telling me to wait again and she goes " WAIT, hold on, we are processing your transcripts right now it says, so it should only be one to three more weeks" I was so happy, then on January 26th I logged into the Breeze and had my Interim Permit, and at 10PM I received my authorization to test. I tested on Friday Feb 3rd, and as of this morning Feb 7th, my Registered Nursing license is active on the Breeze. So over all it was stressful, but it was not that much of a time difference, being that transferring your license may take months. In my school's program we had an NCLEX prep class that I thought was very helpful, and then a wonderful friend of mine reintroduced me to UWorld, and I strictly used that to study the month prior. To be honest I was very scared and felt unprepared because I was moving and actually worked a 13 hours shift the day before the NCLEX. I passed after 91 questions, over 50 of these were select all that apply:(!

I know that you posted this five years ago but hopefully you come here once in a while. How did you start as a New Grad at Kaiser? I am constantly being told I need to work there and how great it is and I am about to graduate but they seem pretty strict on having 6 months minimal experience and prefer 1-2 years. I live right by a Kaiser near Sacramento CA and so far my only job offers in acute care have been in Nevada.! Please, any advice.

That is very helpful hopefully mine doesn't take quite as long I submitted all of my paperwork except for transcripts obviously 2 months and 1 week prior to graduation:(! I was hoping to test asap.

@CA_nurse90 Did you obtain an interim permit in the time it took? Also when you say you applied March 24, when did you graduate? I am asking to know from when all the papers are sent in to obtaining the att thank you !

Thank you, people have been telling me I will be pushed out four months if I want CA licensure. But all I want is a fast test date so that I can let my employer know when I will be testing thank you.!!!

I have a question, for those of you who took your NCLEX-RN for CA, How long did it take you from when you sent it your paperwork to receive a testing date? I am enrolled in a program in Nevada and will finish in December and want to test for California but am being told it would be faster to test for Nevada then transfer my license to California. Help:(!

I got a 252 first try and was accepted for the August 31st start date! Is anyone else starting with me so I can make friends?!

Hey ladies! Was just hoping to get an update about how the RN program is going for you so far? I am going to attend the informational session in Reno tomorrow evening but was hoping to gather more information. If you have credits that transfer in, does that allow the program to be shorter (I have all of the general education courses that are marked (*) on the pdf of the course outline, and was hoping since that takes off around 30 credits of the overall program it would go by a bit faster.

So I have been reading a lot about different colleges, and I so far have completed all of the pre-req's needed to attend a bachelor's degree program to earn my BSN registered nursing. However, I have been rejected from all the affordable options near me like UNR and Western Governor's. I do not have a bad GPA, but it is not perfect and I did not have the work experience needed for Western Governor's. Anyways, I am looking into Carrington College in Reno, Nevada. I looked at the course catalog and in both options (they offer Reno option A or B), I have completed nearly 30 of the credits that seem to be what the program begins with. The program is around 22 months long, and I do have an appointment to talk to an enrollment counselor next week, but I was just hoping that someone on here would know if that allows me to progress forward more quickly, or have a later start when a cohort finishes their classes that I have already taken, because it seems as though at the very least six months could be shaved off of their program due to the courses I have taken. And I also have read that my courses are more beneficial to me, as I plan on progressing to a bachelor's and even master's degree after receiving my RN, and people are having issues with the pre-req's from Carrington transferring. So any help would be great!

That is awesome! I finished all my pre-requisites, and took the TEAS, but will be retaking that soon. I am in northern california I wish there was a spot closer.

Thank you. I think those are what my counselor said, she just seemed to have a very bad connection on the phone and we had already spoken for about an hour and I didn't want to even ask again!
