  1. ? I wasn’t selected. I will try again next year. Good luck everyone!
  2. I don't think they do; from what I heard, they focus more on GPA, years of experience at Level I/II hospitals in large metro areas, critical thinking skills, and leadership. Fingers crossed.
  3. I got a 4 as well. ? I believe that is the average score.
  4. Hi, I applied too! Should we all post our stats? I know there’s a lot more to being accepted than just what’s on an app, but I thought it may be beneficial for others to see who got interviews. Also- per the website’s admission timeline, this is what to expect: September: Invitations to submit secondary application and complete an in-person interview are sent via email. October: In-person interviews take place at KPSA facility in Pasadena, CA. November: Admission notifications are sent via email. Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. ?
  5. Hi, I have an interview for Kaiser SD Zion hospital for ICU RN. I have over 2 years of experience in an ICU that requires me to be knowledgeable/work in all four units; trauma, cardiac, med surg, and neuro. I am interested in relocating to SD with my family and need to secure employment first. My questions are: Does this ICU have designated units for nurses like most hospitals, or are you required to work in all units as well? Any tips on interview questions? Also if anyone has insight on the leadership and management here, please let me know. I am coming from a hospital with a horrid culture and I am really looking for a place that treats their nurses well. Also- the pay was noted to start around $65/hr, does this seem appropriate? Thanks in advance!
  6. I have a BSN, just haven't updated it, but thanks!
  7. Hey y'all :) I am Southern CA girl wanting to get out of this state. I am an RN and I have 4 children. I am wanting to move to Texas and I need your help suggesting safe cities with great schools. My husband and I like to eat at decent restaurants, I prefer newer homes and charming cities. I am not looking for a BIG or small city. I want something in the middle that will allow us to shop, see movies, bookstores, Costco's, Targets, etc. We are very active and love the outdoors. Where would you suggest we move? I would have to live somewhere near a hospital to work and I HATE commuting, so I'd prefer no more than a 20 minute drive to and from work. I read that The Woodlands, Pearland, Spring Valley Village, Greatwood, Coppell are all highly rated, but of course I do not know if any of these have decent hospitals that pay well near them. I am not sure if I am seeking something impossible, but I believe it's out there! Please let me know your suggestions as I am clueless and am relying on you to lead the way!
  8. Are there any other COD Nursing Students that are in the Fall 2016 cohort??? I can't believe there's hardly anyone out there for this Semester. I have already ordered all my books and book bag, stethescope, pen light... etc. Let's keep in touch ladies and help one another out. I saved hundreds of dollars buying the books just by researching for better prices.
  9. Hey does anyone know the actual start date of the program? I got into several schools but I have to determine which is best for me. Orientation is tomorrow I know, but what is the actual start date of the Fall 2016 program. Please help! Thx.
  10. I'm IN!!!!! Anyone else get the email?
  11. Ugh, I have 61 points, and I'm seeing some of you alternates have already been offered admission and you have around 62 and up. I emailed the office and they will not tell me the points they have for me. It's so frustrating. Perhaps my points aren't really as high as I counted??? I don't understand why I haven't been sent an email yet.
  12. @Mgutierrez CONGRATULATIONS!!! Did you get the email today? I sure hope I get one of those emails! Do you remember your points? I think you said you had 60.
  13. So the number I received is the number in line that I am to be selected? Karla Lima just wrote me back and said that number is the lottery result, and now we must wait to see who will accept their admission acceptance and who will decline. She said she sent out 30 letters. Anymore clarification on the status of my number? I still don't quite understand. If my number is 39 and they took 30 students, then would that put me in 9th place to be called as an alternate? Thanks everyone!
  14. Ok, so I am trying to figure out what this all means. They just sent me an email and it has a number. What does this mean exactly? I'm so confused.
  15. Hey alternates, have any of you gotten a phone call or email yet?
  16. Anyone else apply to COD's Fall 2016 program? I just received an email that I am an alternate and to attend orientation in August. If anyone else out there is an alternate, let's keep each other updated on phone calls or emails for admittance to the program.
  17. Hey alternates, I just got off the phone with a nursing coordinator from Golden West because I wanted to verify my point total with her. malenurse2b3 called and went over his points so I thought I would do the same. She told me that they cannot tell us our points, nor will they tell us the cut-off point. She said that they will give us credit for whatever they like and sometimes it is different than what we think. Hmmm. She said that they do go in order of point total with the alternates as well, it is not a lottery, they just go down the line and that they typically pick up more alternates for their SPRING class rather than Fall. In the meantime she suggests we get our classes in order and take Communications/Speech and Lifespan Psych if we do not have them. She said they will contact alternates up until 2-4 weeks before class starts if necessary. That was all the information she could give me. Hope that helps and FYI, if you call they will not go over your points with you.
  18. Thanks malenurse2b3, let us know what you find out.
  19. I didn't hear how they choose alternates. I hope it's not lottery. Doesn't really seem fair.
  20. dkat - What were your total points? I see there are alternates for each class, both Fall and Spring, I am also trying to keep tabs on what applicants points are on here to give us an idea of how close we are to the "cut." ChanelR got in with 67 points, I made the alternate list at 61 points. It gives up an idea perhaps of how close we are? I would think they would go in order from points, or am I wrong?
  21. I'm not sure how this alternate thing works.... no numbers given out.
  22. Got my letter today. I'm on the alternate list as well. 61 points. (Shrug) Let's all keep each other informed on here of when we get contacted by Golden West if we were offered a spot or not. Good luck ladies.
  23. mcspirits12 How many points did you have?
  24. Does the letter say what your are an alternate for? Fall or Spring? Or do you think they wait to fill spots as people decline their place?
