  1. thanks Bacon! I see it says EMT-B. Is that a kind of paramedic certificate? In sweden there's a registered Nurse in the ambulance, often with a masters in prehosp, and often followed by a specially trained nurse assistant. I guess it doesnt work like that in the us. How old are you, and which state you in? Virginia? Nic
  2. Lol.. I'm so sorry. I had a couple of beers in me and were discussing with some buddies about the difference in nursing degrees in the us. We didn't quite understand LVN/LPN, RN, BSN, NP, CNA etc. In sweden there are generally two (well now three with NP) types of nurses. One is nurse assistans, which doesn't require any licensure and basically anyone can read a couple of courses and apply to work as a nurse assistant. then we have the registered nurse. Which means three years of uni studies before receiving a bachelors degree and you can apply for your licence. If you then want to specialize you Can choose anesthetic, onkology, geriatric, ICU, prehosp (ambulance), etc. which means another year, to a year and a half, in university before receiving your licence within your area. how is that different from the us? are all types of nurses licensed? I want some male nurses buddies in the us /Nic
  3. Hey! 27 yr old Swedish "murse" wants to compare different types of nursing degrees with other U.S. and/or Oz male nurses LPN/LVN? Bsn? RN? CSRN? mSN? please send me in private, or if you'd prefer here. :) Thanks! Nic
  4. What is a cna? (Swedish msn here)
  5. Hey everyone! Pretty new member here and I this this sorted out. WhaMy is the deference between LPN and LVN? in Sweden you are a nurse assistant, or a RN. The RN has a bsn and can specialities like anesthesia, oncology, intensive care etc and do a master with them. M a nurse assistant in Sweden is a high school program and takes about a year. He or she can then also read a few courses like EMT isch and work with a registers nurse wit extra education within icu, anesthesia, or ambulance... this is got messy, sorry. What about in the us? EMT? Paramedic? Nurses? Auxiliarie nurse. I want them all defined please lol, loosing my head thinking too much :) Nico

Thank you Lev =) So a BSN is also 3 years for us? In sweden you can't be a RN if you don't have a BSN.. confusing.
  9. I have... well not judged... but mostly older ppl are saying "Oh how long until you're a doctor?" I'm from Sweden, and a bit confused with the RNs and the BSNs difference. and the LPN/LVN.... but that's over the topic, sorry. feel free to send me a message. Are men as nurses in the us a rare sight? Nico

Oh and one more thing... is there a difference in the us between RN and BSNs?

Agcaruso! Thank you for clearings things out! Well in Sweden, or dare I say in Scandinavia, you can do your masters in ICU minimun 1 years of full time study with courses on advanced level, as well as doing a master. The courses include advanced fysiology, patofysiology in areas such as pediatrics, surgical and medicin. You have a certain amounts of hours you need to do on a ICU ward with a special assesement for certain procedures, situations etc. I'm done with my masters in march and then I can call myself an "ICU nurse" otherwise I wouldn¨t be able to work at an ICU unit. Would my education be equivalent to your CCRN exam? How usual is it that men working as nurses in the us? Any "Murse" here? lol

Thank you for the welcoming! I can't believe I haven't found this site til now! Wow thank that is confusing, lol! i was thinking of going to the states in a couple of years and preferably practice my skills however with the economics in the states I think makes it harder for a hospital to sponsor you AND the process of getting a license in that state you wanna be in sounds quite complicated to be honest. What does your CCRN include? And how long does it take? How usual is it to combine nurse anesthetist and CCRN? Nico

Hello! Im a registered nurse in Sweden currently finishing my CCRN which is about 1,3 years to complete including a masters. In Sweden you are not allowed to work in the icu without further education (CCRN, MSN), but I'm just curious how it is in the us? Can a newly graduated RN start working in the icu immediately? Ppl do that? I also would appreciate if someone please could tell me the differences between EMT, paramedic and RN? In Sweden RN with CCRN, nurse anesthetist etc run the ambulances with help of enrolled nurses with somewhat more education then EN on the floor. Thanks guys
