Started my first IV today and more...
You made me smile:) and excited about my journey ahead. There have been so many angry posts. I'm so excited about school and the prospects of becoming a nurse and like you experience has taught me that life will throw me alot of curve balls. I'm great under pressure, but I am not looking forward to the egotistical or whiney folks I'm sure to encounter (every profession has them). I take pride in my work and if I can't I do what I can to make it right without pulling everyone else down with me. Go you!!!! Rah! Rah! Rah!

CNA Question
Wow! It's hot in here. Everyone needs to take a deep breath. We've all been in compromising positions in any facit of life. Unfortunately there will always be people that bully us around and try to deminish who we are and what we do. A bully is someone who lacks self-esteem and has to lower other people to make themselves feel better about who they are. The essence of the question was "is a CNA a nurse?" Not in the court of law and should never be referred to as one. That doesn't mean that the CNA's function is any less valued. They are assistants, and should only handle duties they are hired for. Unfortunately you have (and I'm sure many have) encountered some individuals that think too much of themselves and/or are lazy. Maybe this forum is really dealing with folks who want to change the parameters of the profession and the law. Until the laws are changed we have to be adults and abide by your licensure. Please respect yourself and you will be shown respect. Never, Never compromise your beliefs, you may be asked to defend your actions. I sign this off as a mother and a friend, "kill 'em with kindness".

How old are you?
I just turned 41 and the light went off; I have 2 kids in college and two kids in highschool. My husband finished his DMA (Doctor of Musical Arts) last year and now it's my turn. I'm so excited to start (on the 29th) that I'm about to split!! I've been watching the Discovery Health channel for a long time but it's crazy now and buying old used books just to get a handle on what I will get to be learning.

CNA Question
Unfortunately you never know what pt is going to split hairs because he wants to form a lawsuit for one reason or another. You must all protect yourselves from this event. I used to work in a law firm and have decided after 20 years that I want to serve my community as a nurse. What happened to just having self-confidence in your own work? When you completed your certifications and licensures you knew what your title would be. I am purposefully seeking my RN because that is what I want to do and I know the legal ramifications of that position. If you want all of the duties and responsibilities of a nurse then you should continue your education to become one. If that is not possible then stand tall and be proud of who you are and what you do. Each position has been created to give everyone called to healthcare an opportunity to be a part of it and it works out wonderfully because it then frees up everyone to specialize and not to have to wear a bunch of hats (unless you are in a smaller community and do not have that luxury). :balloons: Stand TALL and rejoice in who you are.:balloons:

A&P I: Fall '05 Anatomy & Physiology Club
I'm starting totally fresh at 41. It's a real laugh too because my Comp I A still sticks after 23 years! I'm taking A & P I, General Biology and Chemistry, Interpersonal Commun. and music. I decided to go ahead and take the bull by the horns and take 14 hours. I have been to the library and checking out books to get my mind in gear for A & P and it's been so fun. It's really been painful because I registered on the first day of early registration so the waiting is killing me. My Pell Grant is supposed to be applied over the weekend and then I can buy all of my books before classes start on the 29th. I orginally planned on going through the Respitory Care program but the more I read the more I want to become an RN in a 4 year program. We'll see how it goes, I'm pretty nervous about making good grades but everyone keeps assuring me that because I want it so badly it will happen. Best Wishes to everyone!
