Post Traumatic stress after Katrina
Guess Slidell will be busy for a while cause the only thing really between Slidell and Gulfport memorial is Hancock General and don't if any of you hoped the line to go see Waveland and the Bay but it pretty much doesn't exist anymore. The hospital there is in wal-mart parking lot. It is amazing the devastation, the house I spent 25 years in from a baby, I drove right past. The road I grew up on Coleman Ave. is one long pile of debris and nothing stands. I was hoping to go to work at charity or university when I finish up here in Ga. And move back home to Waveland. But since my house is gone, and the only thing I could find was my roof about ½ a mile down the road it doesn't look to promising. At least my parents now have a FEMA trailer after spending 6 weeks in tent in the weather. Hopefully something will be done there is so many people who have lost everything including jobs and health insurance. However I say that something will be done but one of the things I think what we as community need to do is start really lobbying now for whatever we can get. You hear allot about the slow response to N.O. parishes, but no one is really talking about the lack of presence of FEMA and American Red Cross Still in places like Waveland and Bay St. Louis, Ms. We are still 7 weeks after the storm trying to recover bodies from the miles and miles of total devastation. I have a web site set up to chronicles the areas of Waveland, Bay St. Louis, Diamondhead and Pass Christian but since it has a donation link I can't post it in the thread feel free to PM for the address. Where did my thread go about waveland and bay st louis
Well I guess I will just repost it if it gets deleted again I guess I know I will have broken some rule or something. The area of Waveland and Bay St. Louis was by far one of the worst hit. The eye wall of the Katrina passed directly through this area. FEMA and The Red Cross Are totally overwhelmed and people are having to survive basically on their own and the water and MREs that FEMA is providing. There is total devastation not one single structure is left standing along the beach road and 99% of homes have significant damage. I have built a website that is dedicated to my family and friends in particular as well as the areas of Waveland and Bay St. Louis Mississippi with photos taken by me and video. I am going back this wends to help who can be helped and work in the MASH unit setup in the Wal-Mart parking lot since the area hospital is not usable. Mat Price

Percent of men in class?
I am at Brenau University which encompasses a women’s college and has traditionally been a women’s school. I am the only male in my class of 40 something I think the number is. I have been treated no differently by the staff or other female students and absolutely LOVE the university. I am SO very happy with my experiences at Brenau that I could not possibly think of going any place else. I have found that many of my classmates have become more of like sisters to me than friends or classmates. They have helped me so much in the last few weeks since I have had such tragedy in my family with loosing my entire home town of Waveland Ms. To hurricane Katrina that me and my 40 family members are in awe of the caring and supportive environment. My Wife, my wife’s mother and my wife’s grandmother all graduated from Brenau and I can say that in my experience it is a first class school that has accepted me with open arms at every turn. I am in the BSN program and there is no place I would rather be. I have no doubt that I will graduate and continue to advance practice degrees with a solid and complete education as well supportive and caring alumni base for the rest of my life. Brenau is the closest thing to being home that I have experienced since moving to Atlanta, I am just a small town boy from a little gulf coast town in Waveland Mississippi and Brenau makes it feel just like home to me. Should male nurses get preferential treatment?
I Don't want anything I have not earned period. I have been dealing with the loss of my hometown ( Waveland Ms.) and family homes the last 4 weeks working full time, making trips from Atlanta to Waveland and going to school. I still do not want any preferential treatment. Just how I was raised I guess. I feel however that many people have of recently changed thier view of men in nursing. Which just happens to be the topic of a paper I have due this semester. Mat

Should nurse practioners be allowed to write prescriptions?
I have a gut feeling that is fixing to change. It has been brought up a few times now and the care here in the metro atl. area is average @ best in terms of wait times and time spent. Mat
