I've just been looking under 'My Academics' where it lists my major as Nursing-IM. I don't know if RIC changes it when you get in or not, but I read here that some other colleges do. I think the letter I received in November said the school would register us for all the classes. I don't really care what sections I get as long as I get in!

oh - I misunderstood your post! I guess I can stop compulsively checking RICs web site today. Maybe just one more time tonight - just in case - LOL!

I saw your stats on another post...you've done amazing! I'm sure you'll get in. I wish I had done as well as you. I'm a second degree student so my chances are a lot slimmer then yours. My advisor was encouraging but told me there are no guarantees. Since hockey77 said they would be deciding today, I've already checked my RIC email account 5 times! I've read on some other posts that the major is changed before the email/letters go out, so I've been checking that too. (I need to get a life!) I'm just so worried that I won't have time to prepare for the semester if I find out late next week that I'm in. I'm working full time so I need to resign and don't want to leave on bad terms (and can't afford to just quit in case I don't get in).

I didn't know about that policy .. sorry for asking you to break the rules. Does anyone know if we'll get an email if we don't get in? Now that it is getting closer I am getting anxious to just know one way or the other if I'll be starting the Nursing program in a few weeks or not.

Hello - There are not a whole lot of hospitals in RI, we're a pretty small state! Where to apply would probably depend on where you plan to live because although we are small, it can be time consuming to get to some places (think ...you can't get there from here!) Westerly & South County hospitals are in the southern part of the state. Both are smaller suburban hospitals. Kent is in Warwick (a bit larger suburban hospital). Providence & Pawtucket have - woman & infants, RI hospital, hasboro (children's) and memorial - are all urban hospitals in the not best of areas. Roger Williams is in the easy bay area and if you plan to live on the island, there is Newport hospital. I'm sure I missed several more! Check the web sites for job listings. Sorry I don't know which ones hire new grads.

Have you considered Bridgeport Hospital nursing program? Customize Your Education - Bridgeport Hospital, CT They have a program with nearby Housatonic Community College to receive a ASN in addition to diploma they offer.

The professors are listed on the RIC web site already so if the letter we (hopefully) get doesn't have that listed, it should be easy enough to find out. I really don't know any of the professors though. Are there any that you recommend (or recommend to avoid)?

Thanks hockey77. I'd appreciate hearing what she has to say. If there is an orientation, could you try to find out the date? I'll have to try to take off the day from work. I am a little concerned that I won't get enough notice if I get in to give a proper 2 weeks notice at my job. I hate to leave them short handed, but I work full time days so will have to quit to attend RIC.

Unfortunately both URI & RIC now do give preference to students who start in their programs. It can be very difficult to get into the nursing programs at either school if you do not start as a freshman. If you'd like to go to CCRI to save money, I'd recommend obtaining your RN at CCRI. Once you already have your RN you can then apply to the RN to BSN program at either RIC or URI. Be careful to watch your grades - all 3 schools have 'performance based' entrance criteria.

I just received a letter from RIC saying my application was under review and we'd be notified the week of January 5th. The letter didn't mention an orientation session. It was a little confusing about how'd we find out about our schedule for next semester. Once part of the letter said we'd receive registration forms with the acceptance and later on it said we'd be registered for our courses by the SON and we'd receive the information in the acceptance letter. I assume that meant our schedule.

I applied late September. Do you know when we'll hear if we are accepted? I heard the first week of January but that seems late if classes start January 20. Any idea how many people applied? I noticed that the beginning classes have 90 openings, so I guess that is how many are accepted. Good luck to everyone who applied!
