Why are the floor nurses so unwilling to teach?
I do relate with op. However, I understand why nurses sometimes act that way. Remember, they have more clients than what they are supposed to have. You seeking teaching from them is an addition to the clientele list (and your colleagues). What I will advice is that, if it is about procedures that an NAP can perform, go to them for help. If it is about passing medication and IV staff that NAP cannot do, go to the nurse and I believe they will be willing to help. Also, If you want to learn, be ready to be humble. Not saying you are not, just throwing it out there.

Starting 1st year
True. I was also a 4.0 student and about to complete my first semester in nursing. I am currently at an A- in all my classes this semester and I am praying to maintain it since I have only finals left. My advice to you is to take all quizzes and test and anything that carries point seriously because they will add up and make or break you. Also main your style of study and evaluate yourself after the first text exam. It might still be useful or beneficial in nursing. All I will ask you to do is group discussion. Find course mates who are as driven as you are and discuss and practice together. Very helpful in the clinical setting. Wish you the best of luck.

Cedar crest summer '15.
Hi, just got accepted into cedar crest college nursing summer program. Really excited because it was a long and treacherous road but finally made it. Will start in May. Just have to do my medical as well as background check. I am hoping someone on this forum is going for the same program or at least the same school so we can discuss and possibly share our adventure. Any and every comment is welcome from both students from same school or any other school.

Nursing versus Doctors
Good advice by the previous poster. First of all, you have to consider the cost and effect here. It's way cheaper to go to a nursing school but will be making less. It is however outrageously expensive to go DO or MD but will be making more money. With MD, think about the stress and payment of loans as well as malpractice insurance coupled with NPs and PAs taking their hours. I know nurse specialties such as Nurse Anesthetist do make more than some physicians (family practice). To really make money as a physician, you have to become a surgeon in a specialty which cost more money and time. SO u really need more than financial motivation to make such decision. How about you shadow a doctor and a nurse and compare .

About Microbiology
I took A&P 1 and micro together. I will say it is difficult but pretty exciting. Did not have the best of teacher but had so much assignment and projects aside the lab. Had lots of class cancelations due to bad weather. It made me focus more on micro. Came out with A in both classes but boy did I study. It wasn't just about passing for me. it was about understanding the world beyond our sense of sight and what goes on there. Just try to be mesmerized by the staff we cannot see with our naked eyes and ask more questions. You be fine. Micro Rocks.

Cedar Crest BSN
Hi everyone. I recently joined this forum and have been hooked since I consider it to be a very helpful resource. I am currently a candidate for summer track BSN program at cedar crest which begins in May. I am starting this thread with the hope of finding current students or students applying there to share their experience, worries and stories as well. Brief description about myself. I am a 31 year old male with a current GPA of 3.81 transferring from a CC. I am yet to take the teas exam and will be taking my last prereqs in the spring semester at cedar crest. I work three jobs and have a family. I will be commuting to school (about 70 miles both ways). I know it sounds crazy but didn't have that much options. I am pretty excited about the program. However, I do have some concerns which I hope any current student could help me with. How intense is the program? Do you have access to useful resources? How is the clinical aspect like? What are the pros and cons of the nursing program ? I know the school is dominated by female. What are the chances of males making it in the nursing program? Anyone in or from cedar crest should please respond .

Should I get my Traditional BSN while I'm in undergrad or aim for an Accelerated program?
That was a very good analysis.

GCSC Microbiology
I don't know this professor are talking about but I can only advice you on whether to take it in class or online. Microbiology involves a lot of minute staff and it helps a lot if you are able to see what you are studying about. Yes it can be gross but it leaves a lasting memory which is very necessary for exams. I know online can give you similar experience but I believe the best choice will be online where you can touch and feel. Unless you have a reason for taking it online. I took A&P 1 online and took Micro in class. I was glad it was in class. Another piece of advice. Sometimes it doesn't matter the professor. You can still do well. You just need to show how bad you want to understand the subject. Use every resource available to you in school and out of school. Quizlet, Khan academy and videos on you tube. Lots of determination and curiosity coupled with a lot of studies and you will be okay. I had the worse Professor on campus for Micro because every other section was waitlisted. I did most of the studies by myself and help from some tutors. Came out with an A. So it's doable. And yes I have three jobs and a daughter so did not have all the time available but had to make use of what I had. SORRY FOR THE LONG POST
