  1. When you are done getting your training and licenser switch to home care.
  2. Yes, you have those who ruin it for everyone else...the lady probably has superiority complex for feels she has something to prove ;/ It's no fun!
  3. Exactly. I LOVE listening to people who have been at the job for awhile. These people are a wealth of information.
  4. Talk about a fungal infection. Wipe that damp dark area!!!
  5. Seriously? Nursing in general involves body fluid and cleaning it up. C.N.As, R.Ns, and L.P.N's clean up body fluid. If that is an issue an office job would, probably, be ideal for you. Best of luck. Oh, and there is body fluid involved with surgery.
  6. Now, now it requires "..critical thinking skills.." no one else can possibly possess unless you are as great as the person claiming they have critical thinking skills.
  7. The first matter of business is for you is to address your attitude towards C.N.As. In order to impletment positive change and change the culture mutual respect needs to be established. It's something that appears, evident by your posts, to be lacking at your facility, and under your leadership.
  8. Aimee you must be an absolute angel. If you can look at it that way than I suppose it's not so bad.
  9. Is it really THAT bad, being a nurse??? :uhoh21:
  10. Catlover71 replied to night fox's topic in Emergency
All patient care staff in high risk areas have to go to it..ie psych, ER, ICU, it was a piloted program last year, I believe this year we are extending it to all patient care staff. T Okay, what type of nursing encounters the least violence?Certified wimp, here.
  11. Well, I am taking a phlebotomy course but that is not for credit- it's considered " continuing education" for a certificate. Plus, it's at another CC than the one I have attended all along. Yep, I am taking a CE course(anatomy and medical terminology for medical transcription) which is worth 3 "credits" or "units", and then 10 in "regular" college. God help me.
  12. Would she have been allowed to take the young ladies(without parent permission) to the doctor for something other than "reproductive services"? You can't imagine what sort of forms I had to sign when my daughter wanted her ears pierced and I had to show an I.D. to show I was her mother. So I don't see why this lady was allowed to take these children behind their parent's backs.
  13. Remember the Fort Kent school nurse? Nice to see the legal system work in our favor! It seems to be working against the parents however. I would not be happy if my daughter did not come to me and went to a stranger in her moment of need.
  14. Sage, getting one's GED is harder than one graduating highschool because it all hinges on one test. Plus, one can take the option of NOT taking Trig and still graduating in highschool. That's what I did anyway...now I wish I did. I need to find a "program" for math I can do on my computer. I took the refresher math class at college but feel like it didn't do a bit of good. Show I am signed up for the human biology class it's the class (people who have been out of school 10+ years need to take human biology )before the human anatomy and physiology, it looks interesting. Got my books yesterday.
  15. Born Rn, I think the laws vary from state to state on what a C.N.A can do. For instance, though this was ten years ago, in the state of CT C.N.As could NOT do Accucheck. Or perhaps it was simply the regulation of the nursing home I worked in. Now HERE in the state I am in now, Maine, that is one of the job discriptions for a C.N.A.
  16. I found out that I scored so low on my math that I would have to take a non credit course. (how embarrassing) Well I guess Im going to have to start somewhere. Join the club! I just finished elementary math and MAY take it again, I just don't feel like it geled right, yet. Oh, and I need to take PRE anatomy and physiology.
  17. He could not verbalize much at all, but he didn't need to. His face was utterly beaming. I knew right then and there that I had made the right decision to quit my old job and get into nursing. Bless your heart, I want to cry after reading your post.
  18. Cute.C.N.A can you believe in CT a C.N.A was not allowed to check blood sugars? I did vitals etc. but work mostly consisted of bathing, feeding, cleaning, etc.
  19. Sagebutterfly! Wow you sound like an absolute benefit to the folks you work on!I wish you the best in your pursuit of your G.E.D and L.P.N degree! 6. If you don't have some of these skills, it's not the end of the world. All of them can be learned. But it's important to know that they are things nurses deal with on an everyday basis. I understand what you are conveying.
  20. I have 3 cats--one is a diabetic on Insulin. Is it very difficult to give the one cat an insulin shot or is it a challenge? I would imagine the cat MAY get used to it. By the way, I have 4 cats and love each one of them!!!! My cats help me keep my sanity. There is nothing like a purrrring cat curled up on ones lap or sleeping next to you at night. two kitties: Whiskey Jack and Bullet....cute little thangs Are they catnip lovers???Mine can't get enough of it!!!
  21. Daytonite Thank-you for your reply, it is really shaping my plans for fall in school. Of course I am taking all the "pre" science and math courses because it has been some times since I have been in school. It is reassuring to see there are folks who are returning to the field~ I am 33 and sometimes feel if I didn't do it back then why do it now? BUT I see there is no such thing as too late. I got 3 cats...lazy and spoled as heck..one weighs 10 lbs i know....off topic..sry Wow how many Fancy Feasts a day is the 10 pound kitty getting???
  22. Thank you for the input Born RN. This fall I am taking a "pre" anatomy and physiology to the nursing anatomy and physiology. Caring... and a good amount of common sense helps too. =) Fortunately, that is something I do have. What type of nurse are you or what type of nursing do you primarily do? I think something you should do is to ask yourself WHY you want to become a nurse in the first place. To positively impact someone's life...or the hope of doing that. As for knowing if you have what it takes to be one, you can't really determine it unless you try it IMO.Like the Nike comercial "Just Do It!!!" Hoop Jumper, please pardon my ignorance what is a CRNA?
  23. You could get your CNA first to see what nursing is like and see if it is for you. Faeriewand, I was a C.N.A ten years ago. Actually, I liked working with the elderly. It was a hoot. I also took care of my grandfather (when he had his eye removed) and my husband, just recently.
