I am currently a nurse case manager working with patients with chronic conditions. My dream is to be an NP but I've been out of the clinical environment for a few years now. I also got my MSN in leadership and management. But I now have had a change of heart and want to be clinician again. Any advice on the best route to take to become an NP?

I'm still trying to figure that part out. My goal is to work in the health policy arena. I've seen a few government positions, but not too many jobs. I know that my MSN degree will be beneficial in some areas, just hoping that I can use it outside of a hospital.

I thought about choosing my area as well. My specialty has been Maternal Child Health, so I figured gaining more years of experience will be helpful. I think degrees are a wonderful piece to someone's success story, but I agree with you as well. I'm going on six years in this area, so I'm hoping my MSN degree will be extra leverage in becoming a consultant one day in the future.

I know this post was written a few months ago. But I am completing my MSN in leadership and management in 6 months. However, I still have a great interest in public health and health policy issues. I was wondering do I still need to get a MPH degree to gain work opportunities in the public health field or will my MSN degree work for me too? Thanks!

I am actually almost finished with my MSN degree in leadership and management. I was wondering, will this degree assist me in becoming a nurse consultant? Not sure if I want to be a nurse manager, but I wanted to have more opportunities. Should I choose another degree along with my MSN or will it suffice for a nurse consultant position?

I remember being in your shoes when I first started in nursing 6 years ago. My reason for becoming a nurse was to be a L&D nurse, but I knew early on it was the not the fit for me. I was always stressed and had a lot of anxiety as well. So I transitioned into working on a mother baby unit. It was a good choice for me, but I always think back to that time and wondered could I have made it last a little longer. If I were you, I would be honest with your manager and try to explore other opportunities if you really feel like you can't go on any longer. Or give it a little more time and see if you can find something you like in this specialty. Good luck to you with everything!

I currently work at home for an insurance company and it hasn't been that easy. I work more hours than I did in the office and I'm salaried. This was my first case management job, so after working in the office for awhile, I was excited about coming home. But now I'm considering looking for case management jobs in the hospital. I personally make more now than when I worked at the bedside. Any advice on how case management is in the hospital?

So I was wondering with me working on my MSN in leadership and management, does it make sense to look for public health jobs as well? It's a passion of mines and I would like to give it a try.

Hello everyone, I have been a nurse for 6 years now and have worked in a variety of settings. I would really like to get into the Public Heath area of nursing. I am currently a nurse case manager for an insurance company and working on my MSN in leadership & Management. I enjoy the administrative side of nursing, but I really miss working with the public.
