What about when you're doing screenings? These are the hardest times for me to keep up with who comes in for what except the ones that have a pass. During recess is the only time they don't have to have a pass (My school is approx 770 1st-3rd graders). I may or may not have a helper when I'm doing screenings, and it takes me several days to get them all done.
  2. Ok I wanted to touch base with other schools on their nurse to student ratio. I have 950 Kindergarteners -3rd graders in a public school setting. I don't have an aid or anything but the secretaries give medicine or treat minor injuries if I'm away from my office. I have several medical kids but no procedures. I am responsible for all the screenings, care plans, data entry, etc. And it is VERY overwhelming.... our law says 1 nurse for every 750 if funding allows. Does anyone have any suggestions or how does your school run? I love the kids but it's giving me gray hairs! Lol
  3. Had a 2nd grader come in with a sore throat, checked her temp (normal), looked at her throat with a light, asked her questions (like, how long has it hurt, etc.) she then said.... "it feels like a toenail is stuck in my throat"...... so I had to ask....... "do you chew on your toenails?" She then looked at me with a sheepish grin & said "yes" I then educated her on the infection risk on that, lol...... 2 days later she came back in concerned "because my boo boo is green & it spreads in the toilet" I told her maybe it was because she was chewing on her toenails, lol
  4. 2nd grader: "My throat is sore" (no redness, swelling, or white patches noted, temp normal).... here's some water...... "it feels like a toenail is stuck in my throat"........ and how would you know what that feels like? has that happened before? ...... "yes I was chewing them last night"
