  1. I am a NICU RN with an MSN with 10 years of bedside and 8 years of charge experience. My goal was to teach clinical PT and continue working as a charge RN. I was told in California that exclusive NICU experience will not qualify me to teach clinicals. Any ideas how to work around this? Thanks

I have worked at a level 2 and a level 4. 1:1 for titration drips and oscillators and 2:1 for all other patients on the NICU, even if they are a grower/feeder. If they are not well enough to go to the nursery they are a NICU patient

I am an RN on a level 3 NICU in California. Our standard ratios for lower acuity NICU patients are 3:1 and 2:1 for higher acuity. We have had 4:1 when we are short staffed. I am relatively new at this hospital, but I have never experienced these ratios before. They say that the lower acuity patients qualify as a step down. I've never heard of that before and my previous CA NICU got hit pretty hard by the state for trying this. Any advice?
  4. Thank you all for your very helpful feedback to consider. I've decided to take the job. I turn in my notice this Thursday and start 8/15. I have talked to a couple of nurses that work at the new hospital and they are very happy. Fingers crossed
  5. It's incentive to stay. It's allocated every 6 months
  6. I have been offered a job that pays $2/hr more, 6% retirement match as apprised to my current 3% match and a $15,000 sign on bonus and only a 5 minute commute instead of my 75 minute commute now. My only hesitation is I just started 5 months ago. I hate to let people down. Anyone else in my boat?
  7. Thank you all for the very helpful feedback.
  8. I work at the highest level NICU. The acuity is very stressful. I work nights and feel like I live to work. Always chasing sleep. I am 48 and this is a second career. I've already put in 17 years in another healthcare related field. I don't want to be this stressed this much
  9. Why did you only last 2 months?
  10. I'm thinking of switching from NICU to home health/case management. Is this crazy? Feedback would be great
  11. I am looking into case management. I have been a NICU nurse for 18 months and the stress is too much. Hoping this will be better
  12. I am a NICU RN in the valley and will have my one year in Jan. I will be considering the Santa Cruz/Halfmoon Bay area mostly. I am willing to commute into the city if I need to. How is the job market and the pay? How long is the hiring process? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you
  13. I think if your under consideration is still there after your application is updated past the date you applied you still have a chance. My under consideration changed when they updated my application to C/V M/S
  14. My status just changed to "no longer under consideration". Good luck to you all.
  15. I applied to CV M/S. "Under Consideration" has not changed since I applied on 10/16
  16. I applied to Chula Vista M/S and my "under consideration" status hasn't changed since I submitted my app on 10/16. Sigh
  17. Mine still says under consideration and has not been updated since I applied on 10/16. I feel like I have appled to sooo many places I can't remember which hospital I applied for. I think it was Chula Vista Med/surg because I was told this would have the best chance for an ADN new grad. OK, I looked at my submission. Chula Vista first choice med/surg, second choice OB/GYN, but my second choice starts the end of Nov so I don't think I'm in the running for that one.
  18. At least the crickets are happening for us all. If you have at least a BSN, Rady Childrens Hospital New Grad program is open now.
  19. Anyone have a change in their status yet?
  20. Im still just under consideration with no update sice 10/16.
  21. Mine says under consideration as well. Best of luck. I missed the Temecula New Grad window. Heard it was open for less than a day. I have applications in Santa Cruz, San Louis Obispo and Bakersfield. Getting this first year is tough.
  22. Just wanted to let you know that I received a card that I was not selected. I live too far away. Good luck to you.
  23. Was it someone that lives close to the hospital? Nothing for me yet.
  24. Wow, that's great. They'll call you for sure. Thank you. Good luck
