  1. I gave 1.5mg over the ordered dose... I can legally pass meds in a TX Type B Assisted Living facility under my supervisor's license.
  2. NurseSpeedy, Thankyou!! I totally do not feel offended. I see exactly what you're talking about with profit over safety, b/c my supervisor is a greedy one... I've witnessed exactly that within the 1 1/2yrs I've been employed here. It's sad and I have learned my lesson. I also know the type of RN I NEVER want to be.
  3. Nurse Diane, I'm legally allowed to give meds, not cut them.
  4. HouTX, yes ma'am, I would've had to cut the pill, b/c the pill wasn't pre-cut already... I've been praying about it and I'm not going to stress behind it either... I have until the 26th, which is my last day of employment, to honor my two week notice.
  5. There's the catch... She was not physically there to calculate the dose... My next question is, I am still actively working here and have not been suspended... Can she legally fire me after so many days of me actively working since the incident??
  6. MunoRN, according to DADS, subchapter C, under medication... "an employee of the facility to whom the administration of medication has been delegated by a registered nurse, who has trained them to administer medications or verified their training. The delegation of the administration of medication is governed by 22 TAC Chapter 225 (concerning RN Delegation to Unlicensed Personnel and Tasks Not Requiring Delegation in Independent Living Environments for Clients with Stable and Predictable Conditions), which implements the Nursing Practice Act. Kooky Korky, I'm accepting a job with the state as a CO to be able to afford nursing school. Then work on the medical side of Corrections, once I graduate.
  7. ArlyleRN, I'm not a med aide. My supervisor said she would contact the Dr the next morning. I'm not sure how exactly it sounds illegal or unethical, b/c I honestly don't know. All I know is that the resident is suppose to have a set mg amount of Warfarin a week. Since I gave1.5mg over, the solution was to give a lower dose the next day to balance out the amount of mg for my mistake...
  8. MunoRN, if you look up Texas Type B Assisted Living Facility regulations, you could see how my supervisor is able to delegate such a task. I had a in-house training, took a "written test" and my supervisor signed off saying I could pass meds in the facility under my supervisor's license. The test consisted of abbreviation meanings and how I would administer different forms of medication, along with the 5/6 rights administering medication.
  9. Thank you. That was honestly my biggest fear. I would like to add in I gave my two-weeks notice prior to this happening and if I got terminated, egally, I will not be paid my 64hrs of unused vacay time on top of my regular scheduled days. Knowing her, the financial benefit of letting me go, would be the real reason why she fires me. Although it might have cost me my job,, I'm glad I was honest.
  10. I am a CNA working at a 13-bed Type B Assisted Living facility in TX. I am legally allowed to give medication at this facility, b/c I'm working under my supervisor's license. I've been working graveyards with this company for almost a yr and a half, where we rarely give PRNs, yet alone routines... I recently came in and worked a 2-10, gave 5:00 meds and then the time came for my 8:00 meds. When I trained on the med cart, it was with the 8:00 meds, so I felt comfortable with those. Upon looking at the MAR of this particular resident, I then realized I gave 1.5mg over of Warfarin at 5:00. I contacted my supervisor, the POA, and wrote my medication report. The POA praised me for telling the truth and admitted to making the same mistake before. My supervisor informed me on how we would resolve the issue, as in giving a lower dose the next day. The next day, I found out from a manager designee, the supervisor wants to fire me. Can she turn me in for neglect??
  11. It will work out for you. Make sure to focus on the Math and Reading/English sections. Those are the one's there focusing on... Good luck and thank you!!
  12. Even though you have less than 24 college credits, you should be able to transfer the classes you already taken... I would look into that. The less credits you need towards your degree, no matter how few they are, helps you and your pocket book... It only took me a week to find out my academic eligibility once I turned in my completed application. I didn't go straight out of high school, although I wish I had. I will say if you are needing the full three-year program, you will utilize ALL of your financial aid. Do NOT do this. Apply for scholarships and grants. Look into the Nurse Corps Scholarship as well. I plan on applying for it next year, since I'll e starting my NR courses then. Expect a friendly environment form everyone you come in contact with on the campus, as far as staff goes. They really mean what they say about the program being focused on student success. There are many resources available to you being a Chamberlain student. Good luck!!
  13. Hi Shelby. I scored 85% on my entrance HESI with a 3.7 GPA. Now that's high school GPA, due to me not having any college credits. Good luck!!
  14. Things are going by really fast!! Lol!! BUT I'm loving it!! Time management is definitely something to get used to if you aren't already. I can only speak for myself when I say the courses online are user friendly and a piece of cake. You just gotta do your work. I'm not taking any NR courses yet, so I can't even begin to imagine the stress level of the other posters, but I do have loads of discussions and papers to do and turn in. I cant' believe we are already going in to week 4!! This marks our half way point for this 8 week session. The next 4 weeks will go by so fast, and then we'll be half way done with a full semester. I'm excited.
  15. Hey!! I'm currently enrolled at this campus. Just like the post above, we are almost finishing up week 2, and it is very exciting. Since, the classes are 8wks long, you do have a heavy workload, but Chamberlain provieds you with a PLETHORA of resources. Currently, the only NR course I'm taking is transitions. I am taking 2 of my gen ed requirements online as well. Do not let the price scare you!! There are PLENTY of ways to earn scholarships and grants for college. Next yr, I'm going to apply for the Nurse Corps scholarship, where they pay for your tuition on an agreement that you'll work for an underprivileged community for a minimum of 2yrs. Good luck!! You can and will succeed.!!
  16. B/c I have no transfer classes, I'm taking NR 101, ENGL 117, MATH 114, (1st 8wks)... Then ENGL 147, BIOS 251, and SOCS 185, (2nd 8wks) When do you start taking your NR courses?? I pretty much will not start until next yr... My SSA planned for me to take ALL gen ed classes this 1st yr, except for the NR co-reqs, but it works out really good in the end though.
  17. CONGRATS!! I told you not to be nervous!! Regardless of the program, you're still going to be an RN!! I'm jealous they don't offer that option here. Lol. So what classes are you starting off with??
  18. 53 credits??!! Woww!! So you have like a yr to a yr 1/2 left, right??
  19. Heyy!! I start May 4th at the Pearland Campus!! Have you registered yet??
  20. Hey. :) The next start date is May 4th @ Pearland. After that is Sept. Have you got accepted into the program?? I'll be attending the Pearland campus as well.
  21. Yes, there are some campuses that do Perkins Loans. Ours don't b/c we're still so new... No grad class yet... But I think if your EFC is less than × amount, you qualify for it. :) Look up grants as well!!
  22. Definitely do NOT be nervous!! These are rough estimates, some hardbooks needed, you can rent for a short amount of time for cheap. Then there are some ebooks as well, depending on what you are taking. I was super nervous about being able to afford it, but after viewing the financial aid I'll be receiving, I'll be able to afford it... Once you view your plan, see if you can take the most credit hrs possible for the school yr during the times you receive both grants and loans. That will make a huge difference!! B/c I do not have any transfer credits, I'm doing only 1 NR course this school yr, BUT knocking out ALL Gen Ed classes, except for the few they pair with other NR classes. Keep me updated!!
  23. Whoo hoo!! Awesome!! Congrats!! When do you register?? I got the call and email that we can start registering for class!! I'm soo excited!!
  24. You have 31 transfer credits?? You got this woman!! Focus on your math and english sections. You'll do fine. We shall all exceed!! í ½í¸„í ½í¸„
  25. Pearland, TX campus. I got accepted a week after I submitted my full application, b/c the committee down here meets weekly. :) Good luck ma!!
