Suture scissor injury
what's an easy way to get help without people thinking your crazy? I am scared to admit it but i went through PPD after my first baby and my gyno was just like if you threaten to kill yourself they'll send you to a mental hospital. I was never at that point...:/

Pain Seekers
This is a daily thing for me on my job to deal with drug seekers. It bothered me at first but now I too realize that I can't change their behavior and I just give them the meds the dr has ordered. I still struggle with taking them seriously tho, I have to put my nurse face on

Suture scissor injury
I was already being texted from the hep c possible stick. I get my follow up testing next month so I will know then. I am just scared and I don't want to admit I probably have ocd. I don't want to die from a blood borne disease. I have a husband and 2 young children

Suture scissor injury
Is there a great risk to catch a disease if you were removing a central line and cutting the sutures and you accidentally poked yourself in the corner of your fingernail? I can't remember if I had already cut the sutures or not. I don't even know if it went through the glove or not. I didn't worry too much about it at the time it probably happened a couple months ago because I didn't think the scissors had anything on them. Now I'm getting paranoid

Anxiety about diseases
I have read everything there is to read on HIV and Hep C. However, when I had weird symptoms that's when I started worrying more. Even though these could be symptoms of something else. Like a 24 hr stomach virus like I likely had and a cold or sinusitis. And I'm not sure what could have caused the RUQ pain except a pulled muscle or possible gall stones. Idk. I had lost a lot of weight but have probably gained 15 lbs back bc all I'm interested in is eating. I have no drive or interest in anything else and have let myself go ad far as weight goes

Anxiety about diseases
I know. I have had 2 needlesticks and felt them. That spot on my hand was just odd.

Anxiety about diseases
I'm sorry. I just have been thinking about it constantly and I know I am depressed. I was just hoping to get some support from other nurses about it.

Anxiety about diseases
How likely do you think you could stick yourself with an iv needle and not feel it?

Anxiety about diseases
Does anyone ever get paranoid about catching terrible diseases at work? I have a terrible fear of hiv and hepatitis c. Over the summer, I started an iv on an HIV+ patient and have been so paranoid that I touched something. I know I possibly touched the tegaderm label that had dried blood on it. Next evening I was vomiting and then the next week I had a slight sore throat and genreal malaise that lasted a week or 2. No fevers. I was tested about 2 months later after a possible needlestick from a hep c + patient and was negative. The hep c patient I attempted several times to get an iv on didn't feel a stick but after I left the room noticed a small pink bump on my palm that looked almost like a pinprick. Then maybe 4 weeks later I started haVing RUQ pain on and off and I'm just scared. I have suffered depression because of all this and thinking about getting out of direct patient care. Thoughts? Has anyone else ever gone through this?

Hourly rounding. Are you kidding me?
The facility I work at makes us ask them four p's when we do hourly rounding. Pain, potty, position, and possessions. I have trouble asking grown adults do they need to use the potty lol. They also last week counted how many times our call lights went off and my number was high one day but I had a very demanding group. Some people are just going to hit the call light a hundred times regardless. We also have 7 patients per nurse

Have any of you ever been stuck by a needle and not felt it?
This patient was a hard stick and had to be stuck multiple times. Don't throw things at me but I attempted 4 times. I believe it was a with a 20, 22, and 2 24's. I was charge nurse and rarely miss iv's and had the most experience on the floor that day. Unless I grazed myself with the 22 or 24 idk. I was really careful. When I had that other stick with the jelco I was holding my fingers too close trying to feel the vein and it came out of the vein and stuck my finger. I even had that thought in the room that I needed to move my fingers. I am so mad at myself right now.

Yeah. I can't say I didn't get interrupted a few times. My vocera phone was called twice while I was with the patient once I had to leave the room because the supervisor wanted to give me a bed. I'm good about realeasing the safety as I'm pulled the needle out of the patient. It's just weird because I have no idea where that little prick spot came from. I have been stuck by a 20g jelco before and I knew immediately and it bled. Unless I was so in the moment with this one I don't know how I couldve not felt it.
