1. So I heard back on some questions I asked, posting answers here if anyone else had these questions. We do not have to wear uniforms to orientation. I asked if we have to do anything for this "In partnering with the local hospitals and clinics in the Greater New Orleans area, LSUHSC School of Nursing agrees to abide by their preemployment and patient safety guidelines. Most of these requirements are only needed once while enrolled unless stipulated otherwise by the healthcare facility. All requirements must be complete by August 5, 2015. " Don't have to do anything concerning clinical but provide all the information required; see all listings in the non-licensed for undergraduate students. (drug screening, background check, fingerprints, etc.) I also asked who we should talk to about specific questions regarding the health insurance: contact business office at (504) 568-4829.
2. Also the bottom of the email says Class of December 2017 at LSUHSC and that's not our graduation date
3. I don't think that pertains to us, I am pretty sure we mistakenly got that email, I see it too. But they are talking about Spring 2015, and we don't even start until Fall 2015, so I am almost positive that's not for us. You could always call the school and ask though.
4. Maybe so. I sent an email early last week asking about it and haven't heard back yet. I will post any information that I find out on here.
5. I am pretty sure we have to go all 3 days. and then again on the 11th for our class orientation. I wonder if we have to wear uniforms for the orientations? I may call and ask, because I have another question about something I read in the "New Student Information for Non-licensed Undergraduate Students" document about clinicals .. I am posting it here because maybe one of you can answer my question. Page 1, item #2, second paragraph. It says requirements must be complete by Aug 5, but I don't see any other links or forms referring to the requirements. Does anyone know what we have to do for this? "In partnering with the local hospitals and clinics in the Greater New Orleans area, LSUHSC School of Nursing agrees to abide by their pre- employment and patient safety guidelines. Most of these requirements are only needed once while enrolled unless stipulated otherwise by the healthcare facility. All requirements must be complete by August 5, 2015."
6. also, i can't join the group on FB quite yet ... my job doesn't know that I got into school and will be leaving
7. hey all ... start with this link .. then go from there. New Students - Undergraduate - LSU Health New Orleans School of Nursing (i personally find this to be very overwhelming but not everyone will feel that way) it's a lot of info but it is what it is! and yes they implemented uniforms a couple semesters ago. is anyone going to be working part time during school?
8. i agree ... the forum that i started this thread from was a constant back and forth of people and this one is quiet. it could have something to do with the fact that we find out so far in advance when starting in the fall, but starting in the spring only gives you a couple of months notice, so there's a lot more freaking out and it is faster-paced. anyway, i haven't heard anything additional either aside from orientation.
9. Congrats to everyone who got in! I got my acceptance letter tonight, I am thrilled! This was my second time applying so I was definitely anxious. I'll be commuting ... can't wait to meet yall at orientation
10. why don't you feel like it went well? I am sure you did just fine!
11. Some things that have been asked in the past are: Why do you want to be a nurse? Why LSU as your school of choice? What qualities do you believe a good nurse has, and what qualities do you see in yourself that would make you a good nurse? Definitely know the mission and values and be able to incorporate that into your answers How have you overcome adversity (i don't remember if it was in the workplace or in your life? - I was never asked this question) I've heard of people being asked what it means to them to have a male dean of the school
12. I just scheduled my interview for Feb 19!
13. I haven't heard anything but slorificen402 called and the school said they are still reviewing applications. They may have just had a ton to go through this time. I definitely wouldn't let yourself get panicked that you haven't heard anything yet. I am sure every semester/application period is different for whatever reason.
14. was that email about an interview, or just letting you know that they were reviewing applications?
15. Nothing here! Been checking my email like crazy
16. this is my second time applying. I applied last Aug to start in January but got on the wait list. I have 2 C's in my first 16 hours so that's a huge bummer / dragging me down. I am currently re-taking one of those classes which unfortunately won't count toward this application but hey, what are you gonna do! I could very well end up on the wait list again applying with the same gpa, but not applying was not a choice. I don't know when we will hear about interviews, all I can tell you is that last time when the application was due Aug 15, we were notified Sept 2 that they were reviewing applications. Then I was notified on Sept 11 that I got an interview. I interviewed Sept 23, then I got my letter some time around Oct 25. My only piece of advice is try not to be anxious and just stay positive!
17. Hi, I sent in my application and I also started a thread - oops! https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/lsu-bsn-fall-966646.html Do you know of anyone else who applied this semester?
18. I wouldn't worry about when you turn it in, it isn't like first come first served or anything. I'm actually turning mine in tomorrow, on the final day, because I was waiting on one last transcript. As far as who has the upper hand over whom has everything to do with GPA, HESI, goal statement, and your interview. So if all of those things are good, then it sounds like you'd have a pretty good chance. You just never know who is part of the pool that you applied with! And yes I am super nervous / anxious / everything else. I am sure everyone will do just fine! Good luck
19. Hi all, I'm starting this as an ongoing thread from the LSU BSN Spring 2015 thread - For those of us who are applying for the first time, or those who are re-applying. That thread was extremely useful in chatting with other applicants throughout the process whether about prerequs, the actual application, or the interview process. Feel free to post questions, comments, and concerns here. Thanks!
20. I would definitely contact someone who deals with admissions / applications from LSUHSC ... they will be able to give you the correct answer
21. if you don't mind me asking - why LSU and not SLU for nursing if you took pre requs at SLU? I am totally bummed - I had a 89 on hesi and 3.4 gpa. Even the teacher who interviewed me said I did perfectly and that she hoped I got in. Students I know in the school currently even said that her and the students were talking about me after saying that I did such a great job. Just not my time I guess.
22. for those who got in, did any of you still have classes in progress? i want to apply again in Jan, but that's also when I will start taking 2 classes that I have a C in. My only concern is if they make final decisions before the semester is over, then I will just be applying with the same GPA that kept me out the first time. Any thoughts?
23. also ... have any of you had or do any of you know of a type of job in a hospital or clinic that someone can do while applying for school? something that requires little to no certification (i will for sure get one if I need to, just not one that takes 6 months etc to obtain), just so you can get your feet wet in the field? I don't want to continue working in my marketing job if there is something i can potentially be doing to make myself more qualified for school. thanks!
24. Congrats to everyone who got in. i just got back in town to find out I am on the wait list. Obviously bummed, but I knew deep down that I should have waited to apply once I pulled up two of my grades. Oh well, at least I know now what the process is like. I just hope I get in next time around (which seems brutal considering the amount of people that apply in Jan)
25. yes, hopefully tomorrow y'all! crossing my fingers and saying my prayers
