  1. Thanks for all of the suggestions, but I've tried them all except the hospital. Again thank you all.
  2. I have tried the agencies. They say the same, no recent experience. I attended a Nurse Refresher Course in 2015 thinking this would allow me to get my foot back in the door, it didn't. I only wanted a part time position. I think I'll try volunteering. Other than that, I'm done and it's ok. Thanks for your suggestions.
  3. I will look into volunteering. Thanks
  4. Thanks for your suggestions.
  5. Not realizing that there were comments, to my question, I posted my concern again. Oops! Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
  6. Hi, I'm still looking for any suggestions on how to get back into nursing at 63. I haven't practiced since 2011. I did take a Nurse Refresher Course in 2015. I haven't been able to secure a position. I'm looking for a part time job. I've gone on a few interviews, but once I'm there they tell me I need recent experience. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.
  7. I'm 63 and I've been an LPN for 28 yrs. I had some health issues that had me off from work for almost 3 years. So now it's been almost 7 years since I've actually practiced, except for 2-3 flu clinics. I took the nurse refresher course in 2015. I still couldn't find a job because I don't have any recent experience. To top it off I live in a place where I don't have any connections with anyone in the business. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
  8. I left patient care nursing in 2008. Due to financial issues I had to return in 2009. I didn't want , but had to. I found that I had gone to two different places to work, but I just couldn't get in the right frame of mind to continue in that capacity at a nursing home. I had worked in a nursing home for 18 years (the same one). I decided to try home care. I remained there for 2 years with the same patient every other weekend. 2011 I quit and decided to take a job in retail. I've been doing that off and on every since. I took the nurse refresher course in 2015, but I have not been able to find work because of no recent experience. I forgot to say I relocated to another state in 2008 when I remarried. I didn't know anyone here except my husband and I still don't. Any suggestions?
  9. I just completed the Nurse Refresher Course at Montgomery College in Maryland. It is Maryland Board of Nursing approved. It is a 3 1/2 month program. You can take the theory and clinical or just theory. I think it is a little more difficult to take the clinical alone.
  10. One of your biggest challenges will be changing from a CNA to a Charge Nurse. Those who you worked along side as a CNA are going to display some feelings that you didn't know they had. The ugly green eyed moster comes along with your new license. You have to be firm, and not let them get away with anything. It is a challenge. You Can Do It!! Good Luck!@!!
  11. I haven't practiced nursing since 2011, and I have been inquiring about the nurse refresher courses. In Maryland there are certain programs that are accepted by the board of nursing. I think you have to check with your board of nursing to see what programs are accepted in order to reactivate your license. Good Luck!
