Recommend NCLEX RN review
I'm sorry to hear about your not passing the NCLEX on the first try. Please don't let that discourage you from annihilating it on your 2nd and last try! You can do it! I graduated with my BSN on June 26, 2017, from WGU and took my NCLEX July 13, 2017. Our school used the ATI RN Comprehensive Predictor and I scored with a 96% likely hood of passing NCLEX on the first try. I spent many daylight hours at the library. And I'm glad to say I have officially PASSED according to the Pearson Vue trick and the QuickResults! My computer stopped at 75 questions, but I was given the survey at the end of my test. I felt so bad that I didn't want to stay there anymore, but didn't get the test complete until the survey was complete! I hated every minute of the survey. The majority of my test was SATA and priority questions. About two weeks of intense studying. My first 3-4 days were spent doing the Hurst Review online that my school paid for. Hurst is great for content review, but be warned it's a crash course. Recommended study is 8 hours a day for 3 days. Be sure to print off the worksheets that come with Hurst. It's also good to have the completed worksheets to study the day or two before taking NCELX. Second, I used the Kaplan NCLEX-RN Premier book and completed that book along with it's included online content in 3 days! I sort of liked this book because it had 2 practice tests with over 250 questions each along with access to an online NCELX simulator. Thirdly, I used the Saunders NCLEX-RN 7th edition and spent 4 days reviewing that book. The content in the Saunders book was very thorough and concise. Lastly, I used the ATI RN mentor app that's free and did TONS of practice questions the week leading up to my NCLEX test. My advice which worked for me: STUDY and PRACTICE QUESTIONS! I wish you the best of LUCK!

My Journey from ER Tech to ER Nurse
First two weeks of orientation are done. And they've been crazy. Every day I've been at work, there has been at least 2 cpr cases. It really gets your adrenaline rushing and I'm enjoying what I do in the ER.

WGU Pre-Licensure Dallas, TX Jan. 2015 Co-Hort
Hello All, I have finished all of my skills modules also ahead of schedule and look forward to seeing what's going to go on Saturday. I just don't like that El Centro is located downtown and I have to pay a ridiculous amount of money for parking. That's good that if all of us do good, they'll make room.

My Journey from ER Tech to ER Nurse
I finished the Hospital Clinical Orientation yesterday, and now I'm on my 4 weeks of Department orientation with an experienced PCT and/or RN. It's been an awesome journey so far and I'm excited to gain this new knowledge and experience.

From what I have been told, making it to the Nursing Clinical portion of the program is contingent of you passing the Skills Boot Camp, Passing the Pre-Nursing Curriculum, Letters of Recommendations, and Interview with the State Director. *Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything.

Getting a Job as an ER Tech
You're more than welcome to post. I'm not really sure where you're from but down here in Texas, ER Techs start out at around $10-$14 depending on experience and hospital you're working for. I just started the job and attended general hospital orientation yesterday so there's not that much I can tell you. Wow you're gonna be in psych ER? Have fun you'll hear lots of crazy stories. Your past experiences in behavioral health and ems should help your file out. Just mention that you are eager to learn anything and everything if accepted. Do some research about the company and department. Let them know your time line for obtaining your emt-b. I got the job out of luck. There were multiple people who applied who I felt were more qualified than me. I'm an EMT-B with no prior EMS or Hospital Patient Care experience. I do have my ACLS, PALS, and PHTLS though. I don't know if that helped my case or not. I'm also a nursing student. I have thought about going to medic school because in DFW, a job that asks for EMT as a minimum really wants a Paramedic for the job. I still will after nursing school.

I'm sorry if I confused anyone. Esme12, this is regarding my job I got. I finally got to meet my boss, the ED manager yesterday. I have clinical orientation scheduled with the education department at work. For the job I was interviewed by HR and the director of the ED, but never got to meet my immediate supervisor.

I hope the skills test is an hour. It didn't sound like it was going to be that short. Clinical sites in Frisco? No one asked me about that. -Happy Holidays everyone.

To my understanding, LakePointe in Rowlett will be a clinical site and maybe Doctors Hospital? I'm not too sure about DH though. I heard the OHN talk about WGU students going there for clinicals also.

My Journey from ER Tech to ER Nurse
Hello Everyone, I am a Male Nursing Student attending Western Governors University's Pre-Licensure (BSN) for the Dallas, TX Jan. 2015 Co-Hort. I and the 13 other students are going to be busy for the next 2.5 years. I'm using this thread to help me document my journey from being an ER Tech to eventually becoming an ER Nurse (Trauma Clinician). I currently work Part-Time as a Research Assistant in Emergency Medicine/Trauma and I am going to be starting a job as an ER Technician in early January of next year (a few weeks from now). Juggling full-time school and a part-time job with a prn one is not going to be an easy feat, but I know I can make it. I have spoken to my Student Mentor at WGU and am excited to be working with her to complete my degree.

Getting a Job as an ER Tech
I wanted to update everyone on how I'm doing. I went to HR today to officially accept the position and sign the necessary paperwork. Then I was escorted to Occupational Health for my pre-employment screening (Vaccination verification, drug screen, TB Skin Test, Mask Fit Test, etc.). The last thing, I was given a packet to review before Orientation on the 29th. I'm nervous and excited at the same time! This will be my last post regarding Getting the Job. *If you would like to follow my ER Tech journey, I will be creating a new thread called "My Journey from ER Tech to ER Nurse". Thank you guys for all of the support and encouragement you have given me. I am very grateful to have this community to give and receive valuable advice. Not everyone on here is BAD.

WGU Pre-Licensure Dallas, TX Jan. 2015 Co-Hort
I couldn't find a thread on WGU for Dallas, TX Jan. 2015 Co-Hort so I wanted to start a thread about it. I would like us to come on here and update everyone on your statuses as you progress through the program. Everyone is welcome to comment and participate. I can start out with that I have already spoken to my mentor and our first conversation was today. We introduced ourselves today, she gave me a pdf handbook of the skills we are being tested over for boot camp (a checklist of skills they are looking for), and we have scheduled a degree plan telephone conversation for the following week after the Christmas Holidays. I have already been assigned homework from her (Vision Statement & About Me Worksheet). Lol! Everything seems to be going in order for me, but that could be that I was one of the top people on the list for processing (according to my mentor). She seems very awesome and down to earth. I'm very excited to be working with her and to meeting all of you on Jan. 10 & 11th. Our Dallas Jan. 2015 Co-Hort has 14 students that were accepted. If you are a part of the WGU Dallas Jan. 2015 Co-Hort, please feel free to chime in at any time. I would like to know how others are doing.

ACLS Classes in Dallas
I can answer this. I took both ACLS and PALS. *Sorry if I sound a little too excited. I took it using AHA ACLS HeartCode online. You can start and stop as often as you need to. I completed my course during the second half of my 12 hour shift (started and finished in 1 day). Then you have to take a skills test which I did on my day off. Skills test lasts about 30 mins to 1 hour depending on how much prep you need for it.

Nurse Advice on Volunteering
Hi there, I can give you some insight into hospital volunteering. I volunteered at both an adult hospital and a pediatric hospital during high school and college. Both in their ED. In the adult, I was more hands on and was able to interact with the patients and help the nurses. I transported patients, helped with vitals, helped with check in, stocked supplies, even helped out in the sup/manager office. At the pediatric hospital, I walked patients to urgent care and babysat. That was about it. Let me know if you want further details.
