I graduated 3.5 years ago, and am on my fourth job. I worked in a nursing home for 2 months, which was absolutely horrible. I was miserable working there. I was unexpectedly offered a job at a LTACH with a new grad program, which was hard work, but much more rewarding. I changed to that job immediately. 6 months later, I was offered a position in an intermediate cardiac care unit. My aspiration was ICU, so I took that job. Just over a year ago, I received my penultimate job offer - medical ICU. I immediately accepted that job offer as well. Now I am in a position where I am happy, challenged, and learning so very much. I don't anticipate leaving here for years to come. Point is, I moved toward my goal and while I "job-hopped," each job was understanding that I wanted more of a challenge. Unfortunately, turnover is common in those places because the work is very hard with little respect. I think they come to realize that nurses won't necessarily work there long. They'll understand. Like you said, you need to work somewhere that will support your growth as a new nurse. You'll only be a stronger nurse for working in a challenging place.
