Trach dislodgement
I think I was justified in "copping an attitude". I was standing, there my patient was in distress and I reached out to the person who is the expert, the RT and he was on Facebook and the copped an attitude with me. I will do whatever I need to do to protect my patient. I'm sorry that disturbing a medical professional's Facebook time is apparently an issue.

Nope the RT's on our floor are strictly for our floor so he wasn't overloaded. I'd understand his frustration if he were the RT for multiple floors. When this occurred he was on the computer screwing around on Facebook which is why the situation was so frustrating and unprofessional. It was like he couldn't be bothered to do his job.

confused about nursing
I worked full time all through nursing school. It's definitely possible but I will say, it is a huge commitment. As someone said it's all about balance. I'm a little bit of a workaholic and there were times I'd actually have to force myself to take a break. I always had one day of the week to just relax. I think that's important. Don't neglect yourself because everything will suffer if you do.

Other than BSN
Google a program called PERRLA...it does all the APA citing for you, sets the margins. All you have to is write the paper and select the type of reference you're citing and it will ask you for all the info and put it in the correct format. Takes a lot of the BS out of the BSN LOL. I don't think if you are really wanting to go further and get a DNP or masters that there is any good way around it. I feel much the same way you do but I'm forcing myself to push through all the stupid assignments (that won't make me a better clinician) and get the 3.5 GPA I'll need for grad school. Like I said, I don't think a BSN will magically make me a better clinician but I already had a very solid science and medical background before I went into nursing and that has worked to my advantage. I think the most important way for an RN to improve critical thinking and clinical thinking skills is on the job hands on experience. I totally disagree with the notion (as well as resent it) that a new RN with a BSN is somehow superior to an RN with an ADN. A new nurse is a new nurse...period. Everyone starts at the beginning...

Exactly my feeling. We have an RT on duty around the clock. I've spoken to my manager at length because this particular RT is very unprofessional and condescending. God forbid anyone asks him to do his job. It's very frustrating but I will not compromise on safety just so I don't have to deal with him. I'm a newer nurse...if I see anything even slightly weird I'm going to get someone with more experience to assess the situation. It's just frustrating to me when people are less than professional and lazy and don't put patients and ensuring patient safety first. Sorry that turned into a venting session LOL.

Can a tracheostomy tube look like it's coming out but not be simply because of the patient's head position? I had an RT get mad that I called him to the room because of the above scenario. God forbid I ask him to actually do his job. Thanks in advance.
