Commuting in Cali
Hi! I am not a San Diego nurse, but I lived in North San Diego County for about 5 years. If you will be working night shifts the commute won't be terrible. Assuming you will be driving the 78 east to Escondido from a beach city, there will be heavy traffic headed west in the mornings, and east in the evening. That being said, the traffic isn't horrible and is certainly manageable. Now taking the 5 will be bad, so you may want to consider a closer town to the 78. Carlsbad is a super nice area, Oceanside is a little bit on the rough side. I am not sure of any furnished apartments in the area, but if you have any questions just let me know!

Ivy Tech Spring 2016 ASN
You guys will probably get more comments to this post if you make a thread (or have this one moved) to the Indiana forum. That is were previous popular Ivy Tech posts have been.

That being said, your score is not bad at all, and I would not hesitate applying if I were you. Even if you make the wait list, there is still a strong possibility you would get in!

Wow, a couple of people were on the wait list at Bloomington for getting a B in A&P with 90's on their TEAS. I had all A's and an 80 I believe and got in first try.

Did you go to your orientation? At our orientation at Bloomington we were told we would graduate in Spring 2016 because our cohort is Spring-Summer-Fall-Spring. I'm not sure if your campus is the same, or why they would give you a 2017 graduation date in the first place. I would try emailing the nursing department and ask them if you haven't done so already.

I am a student being bullied :-(
Ugh, my heart breaks for you. I am so sorry you have to go through this. Although I have not experienced being bullied in the same area of work as you, I know how petty and awful students/employees can be, especially women. I do NOT think it is normal and it doesn't sound like you have a good support system in your program. If it is possible, I would try to keep it professional and not verbally fight back... you don't want to stoop to their level. Just try to ignore them enough just to get through the program. If you feel like you are at your breaking point I would talk to the manager and politely tell them about your situation. Once again, I am so sorry you have to go through this. But be proud of yourself for doing this program in your situation, it does not sound easy in the slightest. I hope others are able to give you more relevant advice!

Hmmm... maybe it varies campus to campus? I just double checked my letter and it only gives info about TB, a physical, vaccines required, and ability to perform essential functions. I'll call the nursing department on Monday to confirm though, thanks for the heads up.

Wow, how did you complete the background check and drug test already? My letter said nothing about either, just the physical and what vaccines are required. I have started to get the ball rolling on getting vaccine records, but that's it so far! I've also started looking into a stethoscope, shoes, and all that jazz, but I think I may wait until the Black Friday sales! I'm glad Spring start has that to our advantage.

Congratulations Hak, myjourneyw, & cshaefer!!! Comfypants (your name makes me lol every time), the Bloomington's Spring class is "accelerated". So we go Spring-Summer-Fall-Spring. I am not sure if other campuses are like this, but it is possible! LuvCoffee, as long as you have records of having those vaccines, you should be good to go. MMR & Varicella are given as babies, Hep B is usually as well, so they shouldn't ask everyone to get re-vaccinated. Maybe try calling your nursing department? I think your records should be fine as long as they are from a physician. YAY koverton! I was worried for you, I am so glad that they accepted your app as-is! That is awesome!

I don't think Bloomington emails, I've only heard of getting letters in the mail from them.

No word from Bloomington yet. Getting a bit antsy and frustrated!

Fritts & everyone else applying in NWI: I went to the Valpo session before I officially moved to the state, and I think I remember hearing the same thing. To be honest, I didn't pay too much attention because I didn't think it applied to me. But I am pretty sure all of the Valpo/Gary students collectively apply to the Valpo campus, then they assign you to wherever is closer or based on special needs. Don't quote me, but that is what I remember!

I have an interview with midwest express urgent clinic
This is the "Indiana Nursing" board. Try posting on the medical assisting board. It is not likely that anyone here will have the answers to your questions.

An update for everyone applying to Bloomington: I called today (again, I swear I wasn't going to be "that person" but I am totally being "that person") and the girl up front said that would not be sending letters until the 30th. This is in contrast with what another girl up front said last week. She said that if we didn't receive a letter by the 30th to call because something may have gone wrong with the mail. I am sincerely hoping that the letters will be sent out before the 30th, and that the girl I spoke with today is just tired of getting phone calls asking ---- Congrats DrFestiva! I think costumes sound like a perfect idea. Congratulations HAK823! Some have gotten their letters on here, but not all. Congrats for your acceptances EdTech & RainMay! I just moved to the state a couple of months ago, so my feedback wouldn't be accurate. I hope someone can help you both decide!

My question is... have we gotten in?! Haha, all jokes aside, thank you so much for offering! My mind is mostly taken up by the latter question at the moment, but I will be sure to ask you as soon as I have one. Thanks again!

Hi Naester! I'm sorry to hear about the small job pool in Radiology, that's a bummer doing all of the schoolwork and having no employment opportunities after. I'm hoping that isn't what it will be like after we finish nursing school (popular opinion on allnurses seems to point in that direction, sadly). I hope you get into the PN program!! Amyjm and Cschafer... I went to the Valpo information session when I first moved to Indiana in July, and I asked the Dean about the admission scores and what scores usually got in. She said that 150's and up usually were admitted, but she was not sure how/if the new rules and point system would change anything. So maybe you guys could use the old formula on your current scores to see if you are in that ballpark? It really varies campus to campus as far as what scores are "commonly accepted", and I think there will be changes with the new point system because it seems that the TEAS affects the score a lot more than it used to. Cschafer, you have an awesome score, I wouldn't doubt that you get into both campuses first try.

Hi rwilliams! I think you have a really good chance at LPN and you may have a chance at RN. I heard Lawrence is pretty competitive but I have seen several posts about people getting in their program after being an alternate. Best of luck to you! My fingers are crossed! That is an awesome score Luv_Coffee! I agree with the weighing of the TEAS score, I was kind of upset that they changed the rules right before we applied. I worked my booty off for A's in all of the pre-req's and I have a lower score than I would have liked with the changes. I got just a point or two under you... A's in A&P, Psych, and English and an 80 on the TEAS. I hope that is enough to get in, but it is kind of hard to tell ahead of time because we have nothing to compare it to.

I am confident you will get in LadyBug! I have a classmate who is in Bloomington's nursing program and he said a good amount of people get in with a couple of B's. You have a B in a class that is not heavily weighted and your TEAS score was high. I don't want to get my hopes up to be let down, but I think our scores are pretty dang competitive!
