Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Unfortunately, this could drag on until late January if they have already filled ED spots and people end up dropping out. I would also like an update, even just to let me know I'm on a waiting list of sorts.

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
I interviewed with the ED and have heard nothing. I have reached out, but no answer there either.

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Heard anything? I'm starting to get antsy.

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
I haven't gotten a follow up offer after the shortlist email either. My application is still listed as interviewing, so I'm assuming they're still processing applicants. I applied for ED, maybe some specialties are taking longer?

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
I'm hoping so! Unfortunately they've opened up a longer timeline with the "few weeks" thing but I'm feeling positive about it!
-
Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Yes. Shortlist is good!
-
Grady RN Residency Program 2019
No, did you? And also, was it critical care?

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
I got an email about being on a shortlist.

Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Which email did you get?
-
Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Nothing for me either. A friend of mine that has an externship there hasn't heard either, according to her they usually take a while. Still holding out hope, maybe tomorrow!
-
Grady RN Residency Program 2019
Oh good! Hopefully they do the same this time!

Has anyone heard yet? I interviewed on the 23rd, and they said early this week sometime.

Whatever happened to going to school to be a nurse?
I am finishing up my first year in my BSN program and I hear this CONSTANTLY from peers. All about going for their NP or getting a Masters and moving up (some want to bypass working at the bedside before moving on!) . I'm already doing hands on care as a tech at a LTC community, so I have already decided I want the hands on part of the job as a career. I'm not a paper pusher, at heart I'm a hands on person. But I know a lot of people that will do the minimum to get through clinical and then move on to something less patient-centered in higher degrees. I get asked a lot if I'd want to get a higher degree and my first thought it 'with what money?' and my second thought is 'will I get to see patients and perform care? Or will I push paper and delegate forever?'. I am lucky, I wanted to be a nurse to be a nurse, the job security is a bonus and honestly the pay sounds amazing to me coming from working for barely more than minimum where I am now. They make us take classes on the theory of caring and understanding but I don't think many take it to heart.

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
The last official communication I have says may 1st, but I would check new admit 411 to see if they updated it.

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
I kinda just stumbled upon it. In the email update before we got our decisions they gave a breakdown of costs and said it was an Elsiver book bundle and I figured if they were going to ask for a tablet type thing there might be an app to hold all of your books. And there is for Elsiver books. They should give us more information this week (as I may be wrong here, this is mostly conjecture). I have a 64gb ipad, but a 32 or even a 16 if you utilize cloud storage should be just fine.

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
I'm also considering honors, but with working full time I don't want to pile on extra work too fast I'm going to talk to my advisor about the workload and then make a decision. As for Apple products, yes, my family all pitched in and got me an iPad mini for my birthday for school. I can do work and use my books on it (the book bundle we are going to get can be viewed through its own app) so I would highly suggest one of those for ease of transport for your materials. Ipads are fairly easy to work with (being a Samsung user myself) so you shouldn't have a problem there.

Just found out I was accepted - Xanax usage
I had the same worry when I got accepted, I'm on PRN Klonipin (up to 0.5mg twice daily) and usually only take half (0.25 mg) if needed at all. I did some searching in their handbook and found that if I have a valid script, I'm all set as long as I'm practicing safely. I'll be disclosing this information to the drug screen people, but not to the school. HIPPA protects you as well as your patients!

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
Congrats!! Class schedule will be Monday and Wednesday 4-6:50 and Tuesday and Thursday 3-5:50. I'm already working on getting my work schedule worked around it. Has anyone received a paper letter in the mail yet? Also I'm waiting on information about how to buy books. I have saved up the money and want to buy them ASAP since we need them by orientation and I'd like to poke through them.

Should I work as a CNA before starting Nursing School?
I'm in the same boat- I start nursing school in June. I've been working as a CNA for about six months and I think it's helped me develop a sense of caring for patients and it's also given me practice with passing medications (I'm certified through my facility to pass meds here). I don't have to do med calculations but it has given me experience in documenting and using a MAR. I wanted to work from the ground up and keep myself humble as a nurse by having done the jobs 'under' me. I'm also trying to get a foot in the door for geriatric care as my first job- I've already had a hospice nurse give me her info and tell me to call her when I get licensed because they hire new grads. There's a hospital in my area that hires new grads, but it can sometimes be difficult to compete for those jobs so at least I have somewhere to start when I'm done. It has been helpful to me, especially where saving up for books is concerned, but it is definitely not required.

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
It's definitely worth it on its own! I'm enjoying working as a CNA; it makes me feel like a baby nurse. I actually just got my renewal in the mail so I'm certified now through 04/2018. We have about a month left before emails come out (36 days until the paper letters are supposed to arrive, but who's counting?). I'm trying to figure out a contingency plan for the possibility that I get denied. I guess I'll be applying to other schools or continuing to take classes at UWG until the next application period rolls around. I really don't understand why the process takes so long!

UWG Summer 2016 Applicants?
By my calculations, there are 43 days left until the actual paper letters come out. By my stalking of past years' forums, we should get emails in the last weeks of March, so maybe more like 30 days left! I'm getting antsy, I don't know about you guys.
