  1. Dementia/Alzheimers patients - I give a task -- "it's important that I know how many squares are on the floor from point a to point b, can you help me with that?" They then have a mission and forget they were upset. Also, a handshake works wonders. May be a generational thing but when offered a handshake to seal the deal (I will let you know right away if I see your horse, I promise), I found that patients calmed right down.
  2. Hi All, I begin my new job as a home health aide tomorrow! My experience is within a LTC facility so I'm unsure of the protocol. The agency, bless their hearts, is tossing me in and have expressed their faith in me; I'm not uncomfortable with that and actually learn best with hands-on situations. What they DIDN'T cover however, and what I don't know quite how to handle, is the arrival. I'm working first shift so most likely my clients will be asleep.. do I just waltz in? 24 hour care is provided by the agency so another caregiver will be there waiting for me to relieve them, all good, but the first couple of days is leaving me weirded out. I won't know my way around the homes and can't rely on past experience to guide me as I have zero, zilch, nil. HELP!!
  3. I use small, round magnets; one for the back of the metal clip, the other on the inside of my scrub top. I don't glue the magnet to the clip, in case it gets pulled off it just "snaps" back to the magnet.
  4. Hi all! Curious - where do you keep your gait belts while working? It's uncomfortable to wear and creates an enormous bulge in my pocket. Any ideas? Gait belt holster??!! (HA) Thanks so much! Violet
