  1. I was fed up at 6 months of being an LPN. Lpn used to be nursing but now in my area we are becoming more limited everyday and a lot of times i feel more like a glorified CNA. They take more and more autonomy , if we ever truly had any , every year. I was lucky to have work in an LTACH where its more of a med surge unit. I pushed my self to go back to school and get my RN and i just finished . Is well worth it .!!!! After being an LPN for 2 years I was ready for change but the job market is so limited for LPN. If you get a fun job , you can't pay the bills with it. Almost instantly Im charging at the same facility that I have currently been an employee with for the past to years. You get a different level of respect thats for sure. I have 2 children and drove 68 miles to and from school each day , on my LPN salary , 3days a week. If you want it just get back in a program and make it work.
  2. Thank you so much !!! That helped a lot! Moving from a small city where they still follow this I guess the old way , I was started doing a lot of research to prepare for what to expect then that question hit me! Texas has much broader line when it comes to what Lpn and RN roles ! Here Lpn take higher acuity patients on vents and we are able to do things that Texas LVN cannot do ! I got my LVN in Texas and will also have my RN there too ! The accountability remains the same however for RN's. . Now that I'm in school to obtain my RN I do see that there is a big difference in the amount of knowledge that RN's are required to know vs. LPN's who are taught first line interventions and then report to the RN!! Thank you again I'm so excited I love your state!!!í ½í¸í ½í¸
  3. Greetings, We are planning to relocate to the Houston area in about a year if all goes well. I'm currently in an ADSN RN (upward mobility) program! For those who may not know its a program that allows and LVN/LPN to prepare to sit for the NCLEX RN giving LVN/PN credit for knowledge already gained in the LVN program and nursing experience in a lot of cases! It's 12 months long! The question that I have is pertaining to these RN new graduate residency programs seeing that a lot of hospitals prefer/require New RN to attend them! I understand the rationale behind it pointing to the fact that You're really only get 2 years in a BSN program and 1 in a Basic nursing ADN Track , and once you graduate you don't know what you don't know until exposed! However, I have been working in an LTACH here in Louisiana for going on 2 years and have the med-surge/acute care experience because LVN/LPN are allowed to take ventilators and high acuity pt. We are also ACLS/BLS certified! My question is when I do earn my RN surely my experience as an LVN in this setting has to count for something. It's not the same as someone who has never had a patient of their vs. someone who can maintain a pt. load successfully and independently!! Anyone that has had experience with this or maybe knows someone, please let me know your take on it !! Thank you kindly
  4. The fact that you actually choose to acknowledge that there are specific instances that minorities get unfair treatment is highly commendable! As a minority it may not seem like much to some , and may even come off as whinny. However, I have found that their are many individuals who would rather ignore or make excuses for actions of prejudice instead of just saying the treatment is flat out unfair and behavior is offensive. In order for it to cease we need more people to acknowledge that others are most definitely treated differently even if it's subtle, there is a difference. Thank you
  5. To be completely honest! Nursing school is 1000 times harder than anatomy but it also has a part that is applied! Most nursing fresh out of school can't even apply any of the knowledge they learned in school for a whole year out! So if you can apply things you will make a good nurse! Half the stuff you learn in nursing school you will either never use or you will grow to understand it! I know people who barley passed anatomy and made great nurses! Remember C equals Nurse
  6. Sorry you have to go through this. It's 2016 and in a field that takes care of others you would think that people would be more humble! Guess not
  7. Lvn school is hectic and my school is not one of those who teaches you what do in a perfect world. Its ruff!!!My cousin is in RN school and her work is so easy to me . All careplane and not much critical thinking is required.
  8. Yes that exactly what im doing although my goal is to be in the ICU r ER in my area you dont see the hiring NEW lvns in hospitals though. The problem is since they are requiring more educated nurse they aren't many jobs in those areas that i just mentioned. Lvn with yrs of experience is completely different than a new lvn ,they r held to the same respect as RN because of experience. I really suggest looking into where you want to work vefore deciding to be lvn r Rn .After i looked at most of the jobs that r hiring in this area its all ltc which i dont really want to work forever in i felt like i had wasted my time. Wrong !!know amount of knowledge is wasting time lvn r generally just better nurses as for as being able to deal with a pt . I'll be SuperNurse when i obtain my RN??. The RN graduates dont get as much as me but can push iv meds. I just think this route makes a better nurse.
