  1. Thank you! This is by far the most concrete helpful reply I got. :)
  2. Well he's currently stationed overseas. By the time I graduate or maybe a couple months after I finish ODS, he'll be due for PCS or at least start like looking at his options and putting request in. So it'll be perfect timing!
  3. I'm 22. My parents are Asian. I was raised to respect them. I made a promise I'd graduate first before I got married. But also, when it comes down to it, all I ever really want is their blessing... If he ends up getting deployed during the time I graduate, then we're gonna have to do it earlier whether they approve or not... I'm just trying to keep my word to my parents.
  4. So they wouldn't have a problem with us getting married once I'm already an officer?
  5. Would anyone question it or is there anything extra we need to do if we decided to get married once I'm already an officer?
  6. Is it considered fraternization if I'm a civilian who is entering the Navy as an officer and have a boyfriend who is currently enlisted? I'm a nursing student and just got accepted to the Navy Nurse Candidate Program. I will be commissioned after I graduate college (and pass the NCLEX) and before I go to Officer Development School. Would it be better if my boyfriend and I get married before I get commissioned? Or is it okay to wait until after ODS and I am all settled in my first duty station? We want to get married so there's a better chance for us to be stationed relative close together. We're just trying to figure out when is the best time to do it. I still have 1.5 years till graduation. He says it's better to do it before I'm commissioned so we'll have the paper to prove we were married before I joined... but I was hesitant to get married right around the time I'm gonna take the NCLEX and right before ODS because the name change and status change may affect all the required paperwork required for my license and ODS... Is there anyone who has insight on this? (For the record, I would marry him in a heart beat right now [because 1. I love him to death and see myself with no one else for the rest of my life, and 2. there's more time and it'll easier to fix all the paperwork stuff], but my parents are strict and want me to graduate first that's why I'm trying to figure out what my other options are).
  7. I have been selected! How do I join the FB group? Can you please PM me the link? THANKS! :)
  8. I am currently applying for the navy nurse candidate program. I am about to start my second to last year of nursing school and my boyfriend who is enlisted in the Navy and I are talking about getting married maybe at the end of this year or before next school year starts. He is just an E-2 right now and by getting married, I know he will be able to get BAH. I have a few questions. 1. Will getting married affect my navy nurse candidate application? 2. If wait to figure out if I get in or not, and I get in.. then get married, what would I need to do legality/paperwork-wise for the program? 3. My mom puts me as a dependent on her taxes. How will that change if I get married? 4. If I get married to my sailor does he need to consider me as an dependent for tax purposes? If he doesn't put me down as a dependent, can my mom still put me down as a dependent on her instead? 5. If we get married but I don't change my name, do I have to worry about any legal stuff such as a drivers license, social security, bank accounts, insurance, my status at school? 6. If we get married, I will be considered an independent for FAFSA purposes. I know I will need to put my spouses' income, etc. Do I have to worry about putting any information about my mom since she will be considering me a dependent on her taxes? Or am I allowed to not put any info about her since I'm considered "independent" already? 7. How will the BAH work if I choose to live at home with my parents while going to school and he is stationed somewhere else? 8. If I get in, and get commissioned to be an officer, how will the whole BAH thing work/change? 9. If I don't get in, but find a job as a new grad here close to home far away from him, are we allowed to continue living separately? How will the BAH work then since we're choosing to live separately?
