I want to be proactive while earning my ADN....
I graduate Dec 2016 as well. I applied at a hospital as a CNA and was told that they don't like to hire nursing students because they are not taking any new grads.

I want to be proactive while earning my ADN....
I am currently in nursing school at a community college. While I plan on getting my BSN after I graduate, I am frustrated at the thought of not being able to find a job with just my ADN. I know new BSN grads that can't even find work. I am currently a CNA at a LTC facility and hope to work in a hospital soon. I am trying to be as proactive as possible and form relationships now while I am still in school. Does anyone have any suggestions of other things I can do to get my foot in the door? Any suggestions are appreciated!

Not sure if nursing if for me
I am 32 and recently returned to college about a year and a half ago. I have changed my major many times because I cannot seem to choose a career path. I do know, however, that I want to be in a medical field. I just recently decided to try nursing and finished up all my pre-reqs. I just applied for the spring evening program and should hear if I am accepted by mid to late Oct. I am currently taking a CNA course to kill time and get some patient care experience and I absolutely hate it. I find myself shaking before walking into clinicals. I'm worried that maybe nursing is not for me and I should try cardiovascular tech instead. I just want to pick something and stay with it because I want to finish school so my husband and I can start a family. I know that being a CNA and being a nurse is completely different but I can't help feeling doubt. Am I overreacting? Does anyone else have similar thoughts? Any response would be helpful because my family and friends are tired of listening to me haha.

Becoming a CNA before starting school.
I understand what you mean and I agree with you. I still think that it would be a worthwhile experience.

Free clinical terminology class via University of Pittsburgh through Coursera
I am taking that class as well. Very easy so far but I think it will be very helpful!

Seeking experiences with bookrenter.com
bookrenter and chegg are great! Don't rent a lab book though as the pages will be written in and or torn out! Why they would even rent out a book like that is beyond me. I recently ordered a new book from a different site and two weeks into my class they sent me an email saying "we are issuing you a refund, sorry for the inconvenience". No other explanation! Returning books to both bookrenter and chegg is super easy, just print return label online and drop of at UPS location (I usually go to staples on my way to school).

Becoming a CNA before starting school.
I am applying to the spring nursing program at my school and have decided to get my CNA certification while I wait to see if I get accepted. I would like to get some experience with patient care and (like you) I want to make sure that I can hack being a nurse. I am completely interested in medicine and love all the technical aspects but there are also things that gross me out and I need to feel confident that I'm making the right decision by becoming a nurse. Many people have told me that it is not worth the money to get my certification and the being a CNA is horrible but I feel like it is something that I have to do and that gaining the experience will lessen my anxiety.

I am so frustrated with Anatomy & Physiology :(
I am taking AP2 now online and get no teacher interaction/help. It is extremely stressful and both AP1 and 2 require an enormous amount of studying, memorization, and initiative. Unfortunately, like any subject you can have a really awesome prof or a really terrible one (both of mine had such thick accents that I couldn't understand a word out of their mouths). My suggestion is to take some initiative and mold your own learning experience. I learned reinforced a lot of my knowledge by supplementing book and lecture with youtube videos because sometimes a different perspective helps in the understanding of the material. I always liked khan academy medical and penguinprof to name a couple. If you don't understand a topic in class....don't let that be an excuse...take it upon yourself to learn it! Good luck!

microbiology unknown help! I am so frustrated.
The unknown can be stressful. When I did mine I found out that the sample was contaminated so all the results were skewed. My professor told me that in all honesty, it is almost impossible to correctly identify an unknown using the tests given so I wouldn't freak out at this and when you are finished will all of your tests compare all of your data and make an educated guess. Most importantly, make sure you clearly write your issues in narrowing down the unknown and your analysis in your lab report and most likely the professor will give you full credit.

I need help
I am also finishing up my prereqs at a community college and I plan to volunteer at the local hospital and get my CNA license in the fall (since I have no further classes until Jan if I make it). I want to get my CNA license for some patient care experience and hopefully some connections at the hospital. Networking is always important in the job hunt so I believe any little bit helps.
