  1. I more or less have the same view as you. But i have noticed because i have a female manager who doesnt have children i feel she discriminates against me in subtle ways
  2. Hi I just wanted to ask to those of you who have had babies/children recently and gone back to work in the NHS do you find your colleagues more supportive or negative reactions towards you? As for me i have found my colleagues have been so nasty towards me sadly its the women who are the worst. Anyone got any similar experiences.
  3. Try Kings College. City University London Kingston University
  4. I agree with the above poster that nursing has made many changes. Its good to modernise and refresh
  5. Again i think this is a case of old school vs 21st century nursing. Each side has valid points
  6. Nursing has become a more evidenced based profession. Patients are becoming more educated about health and disease, therefore Nurses need to be more educated. Gone are the days when nursing was task orientated. It seems the old school nurses prefer that nursing was still task orientated. Nursing today gives more scope intellect and challenge it should be embraced
  7. I think this debate is similar to the one in the uk. There is alot of concern about nursing graduates when they get on the wards. There is concern about communication skills clinical competence and drug calculations etc. That is why the nursing profession in the uk became degree level because of these concerns. I always thought nursing in the USA was high calibre and that being educated to degree level would natrually move you away from the bedside to management anyway
  8. My manager is just not supportive of me. My face never fitted the area i am in. Where i work its all about favouritism. Band 5s are rarely listened to
  9. Thanks for the support.
  10. I am demoralised at the moment. Feel so low
  11. You will be probably be asked about * Managing a team/department and meeting clinical targets as well as maintaining high standards of care. * Managing a budgets. Dealing with sickness, annual leave, recruitment and retention, performance management. Clinical auditing at management level. * Dealing with conflict Within teams/departments *Managing clinical risk in relation to the ward/department. * Dealing with CQC etc. * Managing policies and adherence etc. I am only a band 5 by the way but i am guessing these are the things you may be asked at interview. Also you may be asked if you have or prepared to take on a Masters Degree for your role.
  12. When people raise the issue of recruitment in nursing its always a delicate issue for the following reasons: 1) Current nursing shortage across the uk. Nurses leave posts and they are never replaced. 2) Current working conditions in the NHS and the increase in zero hours contracts 3) The NHS does not do enough to keep and develop qualified nursing staff particularly those from a BME background. The statistics for Senior nurses and Board Director from BME backgrounds are far and few between. 4) Its far easier to temp nurses abroad with nicer weather, better working conditions and better pay
  13. I want to get into Midwifrey but am currently practicing Mental Health. Would i have to go back and complete a 3 degree course. Advice would be needed
