If you choose nursing the most lucrative field is CRNA, (anesthesia), or Nurse Practitioner. Personally, I would go for PA. You already have a lot of the educational background. Nursing has become ALL about the credentials and not about the patient, (from an administrative point) which trickles down. I have been in nursing over 3 decades, and this is just my humble opinion. You WILL get over your fear of needles.

There is no possible way for you to 'know' this. I feel so sorry for you regardless of whether you want it or not. All who seek will find...eventually. I am also not trying to be cynical. My heart aches for those who feel as you do.

I won't be repetitive. I love that they sleep, (sometimes), family are usually not present. By the time they feel awake enough to ask for drinks and crackers and start telling you their life story, they are ready to go to their room or home. They actually NEED the narcotics, (I came from the ER to PACU). I like the autonomy of nursing decisions because our group of anesthesiologists are wonderful and appreciative of what we do. Ok so I've outed myself as only 'slightly' burned out, but I've been a nurse a long time.

Went from ED to PACU also. Airway management skills and autonomy are a must. Different doses of narcotics are given, (much smaller), because the patient is already sedated. The evenings were stressful as our only doctor was in surgery and available only by phone. So you really have to be on your toes. It's a different kind of stress, a different kind of busy.

An anesthesia provider that does not provide pain control during surgery should be fired. JMO. Uncalled for unless there was a specific medical reason, and those are rare.
