Day 4: 2016 Nurses Week Top 5 Things Contest
1. NEVER ASSUME ANYTHING. never assume the emergency equipment is at bedside, never assume the antibiotic infused, never assume the patient knows how to call for help, never assume the weight they recorded in the ER is accurate... 2. I am lucky. No matter how hard my nursing day is, it is still likely better than my patient's day. 3. Pain really is subjective. Some people go from a 7 pain to a 6 pain and are sooo pleased while others still are not relieved at a 3 pain. Ask the patient what is tolerable for them. 4. Make a good first impression. Even though admissions are time-consuming, putting in the effort now will save you a lot of grief in the long run. Manage their expectations now, get them comfortable and LISTEN. 5. I'm in pediatrics and I've learned you just CANNOT reason with a toddler- they are incapable of comprehending past the here and now. Therefore, you really do have to hold them down for an IV and then just reward and comfort them after

New York Presbyterian New Grad Event
The woman in charge of Career Services at my school told me it was fine. Also, HR told me that there are rarely any New Grad jobs left to open up if you don't attend this event. I carefully weighed the pros and cons and decided missing 8 hours of public health clinical is worth the interview practice at the very least or job at the very most.

New York Presbyterian New Grad Event
I go to JHU SON and am graduating this July. I am missing clinical this tuesday to go to the New Grad Career Event at New York Presbyterian. I am trying to find a job (preferably peds) in NYC or NJ to be with my boyfriend (Long distance for 3 years!) Have any of you been to this event before or heard anything about it? I'm going into it prepared of course but also with sort of low hopes that anything will come of it. I am expecting to be one of hundreds of resume-ready high-heeled BSN candidates. Anything to stand out, insider tips, etc? Anyone know how this process goes- the HR woman I spoke with was being kind of unclear but she made it sound like they open up New Grad positions after this first event and if you attended, you get first dibs. Any other info? Thanks!!!

New Grad jobs in NJ/NY?
that would make the most sense except that our school is encouraging us to submit the application for signing up for the NCLEX now because it takes so long to get our ATT #

New Grad jobs in NJ/NY?
Hi everyone! I am graduating from Johns Hopkins with my BSN at the end of July!!! I plan to move up to live with my boyfriend- he currently lives in Manhattan but we would like to live in Jersey, like the Hoboken/West NY/Union City area... Since I am not familiar with the area, I figured I would see if any of you guys knew of hospitals/RN residency programs close to that area or even in Manhattan that had good reputations for new grads or for pediatrics!! I have looked into several such as JFK medical, NYU, NY Pres, Hackensack, Children's Specialized, Mt. Sinai... Anyone know how much more entry level RNs typically earn in NYC compared to Jersey? other thing I need to decide is which state I should get registered in.... the NY process seems less intense and is cheaper but I also think I am more likely to get a job in NJ. How annoying is it to transfer liscenses? why aren't they compact states any words of wisdom on these topics or related topics would be well appreciated. thank you!!!
