If you don't mind me asking, what area do you work? i know not all areas can be as crazy as tele, it just makes my whole nursing experience seem like all nursing is just insane. I guess I can only find out by trying new things.
  2. I have been a nurse on tele for a year and half. I have come to realize that I am pretty miserable with my job on tele. Although I love working only 3 days a week. I am applying to some jobs within the hospital and I have major anxiety. What if the grass is not greener on the other side? I have gotten to the point of wishing I just was never in nursing, even though I went into it because I love to help people. I am open to working Monday-Friday but how do people do it with kids and appointments? It makes me feel like I am destined to be a floor nurse because a Monday-Friday job doesn't seem possible. I guess what I am asking is has anyone started in a job they just didn't feel was right for them and took the leap for something else? Is nursing really that different from telemetry nursing? Thanks
  3. Thanks everyone! I agree with what you guys are saying. I guess it can be scary starting something new.
  4. I am finishing my last semester of nursing school. Everyone told me it was going to be the worst thing and greatest thing I ever do in my life. I went in with an open mind and decided to let myself gain my own opinions about it which I defiantly have strong ones. But my advise is go in with an open mind, do what is asked of you and do not argue with staff, make friends with the teachers because they can help you get jobs, and study study study. I am not saying there isn't times where your going to have break downs but remember what your goal is and that its not forever. Remember its just a small part of your life. You'll have to turn down friends and family but people who care will be there at the end. Congrats! and as far as how to prepare for nursing school just figure out what you need to read for the first week. Teachers like you to be prepared before class even if it's the first day. But enjoy your time before school starts because once its does its a wild ride :)
  5. Hi, I have one more semester before I get to take the NCLEX. I am externing right now for a telly unit and have worked with the hospital for almost 3 years now. I am being offered an externship for NICU at a different hospital. My dream has always been to work in NICU. They said that a job after graduating is not guaranteed but of course it's a great place to gain experience. I am afraid that if I leave my place of work (which I am not to fond of) that I will burn bridges and if NICU doesn't hire me when I graduate than I will not get a nursing job. I know nursing jobs are hard to get out of school. Should I go for my dream of gaining experience in NICU or stay with the job I do not really like because I am afraid of not getting a job when I graduate? I feel like I should just take a leap of faith and go for what I have always wanted which is NICU.
