  1. Travel! You will regret not going! With your experience it shouldn't be too hard! And keep in mind when u get back from your trip, there are also accelerated online BSN programs you can finish in less than a year!
  2. Hurst is good if u need a content review. However, I think Kaplan was very helpful in that it helped me learn HOW to read and answer the question by using strategies. I used both programs together and it helped me pass at 75 questions. I got most of my content from hurst review (I think they did a god job at simplifying things) and practiced qbank questions like it was a full time job (doing up to 250 questions a day)! Taking NCLEX is like training for a marathon! You have to be mentally and physically ready! Good luck!
  3. This is exactly why you should never do something JUST BECAUSE THE DOCTOR ORDERED IT! GOt a call from my manager stating I was right in not forcing treatment. The manager spoke with the hospital attorney as well and he agreed. Docs totally jumped the gun on this one & just wanted to know of there should be actual documents filled out
  4. Pt was alert and oriented! There were so many factors that the doctor didn't consider so I refused to go thru force meds and give treatment despite them declaring him a med emergency. This happened so fast (within 8 hrs of him refusing a treatment)
  5. I had an scenario at work where a patient refused an important procedure and the docs decided to declare a medical emergency on the patient. (FYI pt has been own decision maker.. No guardian etc) What are the steps that doctors need to take in order to declare a medical emergency? Also, do the doctors have to fill out certain paper work?
  6. Something I've learned since my 3 yrs of nursing: Always remember that ANY experience you get will be valuable wherever you end up in Your nursing career. LTC was the hardest nursing I ever did, but I will never regret it! Learned how to work hard with little support from staff and managers! As a new grad, your chances of getting into the ER will be low. Timing is everything. For ex: I got a job as a DEtox nurse with no exp because the nurse manager was desperately looking for rNs. Don't stop applying! Keep trying!
  7. Congrats! I'm currently a medsurg nurse hoping to get into the OR soon! Were u just able to transfer? Keep us posted!
  8. Thanks for the feedback everyone! I applied to a Periop 101 program at a hospital. It it was so competitive I didn't get in. Would my other options be to find an outside program and pay out of pocket? If so, is their a website I can find accredited, legit programs?
  9. I've been a nurse for 3 years with experience in med-surg & psych! I'd love to hear how you got into the OR with no previous Periop experience. Tips. Thanks
