  1. We draw from PICCs all the time, you just can't use a syringe bigger than 3cc.
  2. We are on call every other week for eight hour shifts, mandatory. We get a whole 1.75 an hour while on call. If you get called in and maybe you only have to stay a few hours then the rest of your call is not cancelled, oh no. You get to go back home and sit by the phone. And, most of the time when we get called in it is to float to another unit sometimes two units. It sucks, I don't recommend taking a job where you have to be on call so much.
  3. It's really not that bad. Don't worry so much. Anything you do in clinical that could possibly put someone in danger is monitored by your instructor. If you are doing an Iv, injection, foley, meds.... your instructor is there and will talk you through it - the instructor doesn't expect you to know everything right away. Relax. Best of luck to you.
  4. I am in nursing school right now and I can tell you that there is a lot of practice in lab. Our lab has hospital beds, mannikins, fake arms that bleed, we also have special pillows that are supposed to feel like flesh for practicing injections. You will learn a lot more in clinical, where you actually get to practice on real patients. Your instructor is always there with you when you pass meds, perform procedures, do assessments, etc. We also have lectures and group discussions in the classroom. Nursing school is not easy, but you do make a lot of friends, meet a lot of great instructors, and you will never forget your first patient. Good luck to you.
  5. Hi Everyone! I am in my second semester of nursing school in a BSN program. School is really frustrating me right now. I guess I'm looking for the light at the end of the tunnel, hoping that nursing school will not continue to be this stressful and tiring. It's not that I don't like school, I just want to be a nurse so bad that I can't wait to graduate and pursue my career. Does anyone has and advice or words of wisdom? ------------------ NurseKrissy
