I didn’t save those. Saunders book is amazing. It describes every health condition and then has questions too. I think a used version would be fine as long as they didn’t circle the answers. I think you can get online and app versions of some of them now. I think I went to this strategy in Nursing II. I did practice questions for every test. Got straight A’s but it was very hard to do. ATI is good too. A lot of it is optional and it’s not the most user friendly but you have to take tests in there eventually. I had a hard time finding time to do it pay attention when they demo it In the first few weeks you have nursing practice, history test in Theory. In clinical (onsite at SPC in beginning) you have skills check off (hand washing, bed making, BP, etc.). I was scared to death to wash my hands wrong. It’s funny now. You’ll see. After that start using the questions for all theory tests. Lastly you WILL BE overwhelmed. I cried my second week in. You won’t think it’s humanly possible to do what they ask. Just keep going. You’re not alone. Nobody handles it well!!

So your main text (was kozier & berman) in 2016-17 you use quite a bit. I would buy that one new so you can do your own highlighting and mark up. I still have mine amd occasionally use for reference. Everything else renting would have been fine. I bought the extra study question books that were optional - really helped me learn how to answer questions. It’s NOT like you can memorize and do well. You have to be able to retain and apply knowledge. Oh and hey I’m not creeping here. I’m in the RN to BSN program and was looking for a thread. I used this a lot before I started ADN too. The NE number is only for BayCare hospitals. They require extra training for students (non- team members). Each clinical site has its own requirements.

You buy from bookstore. It’s heavy. Be prepared.

@shoemjen - I averaged 62% mostly cuz I did it watching TV, waiting in line, all day whenever I had a minute. I made stupid mistakes (picked what to do versus what not to do, accidentally skipped questions). I didn't do the test cuz I like getting the rationales - used it as a learning tool.

I'm sorry @rvimmi but it does sound like you have to re-test. 45 or 90'days later - varies by state. Try UWorld and focus on critical thinking. Hurst videos are good for content and how to take test if you can sit through them.

I passed!! So to reiterate..... -only studied for 3 weeks using uworld 1600 of 1952 questions -took test at 8 am on 2/7, 75 q in 45 mins!! - no clue when I walked out how I did -did PVT and got good pop up (changed exp date and security code), you get message just doing this -FL BON posted both that I passed and my license number at 8:45 am on 2/8 Glad my state processes fast. So happy!!

I have heard nothing but good about PVT - I think the confusion is the pop up about hold. People I know who could pay failed and those who got the good pop up passed.

Hi everyone. I graduated in December. I waited until three weeks ago to study. Needed a break for holidays. To prepare I did the Hurst videos and followed along in their workbook. I did not do any of the tests or qbanks or the specialty sections on their site. No time. I did buy a 30 day uworld and did over 1600 of the 1952 questions averaging 62%. Took yesterday off. I took the test At 8 am was done in 75 questions and 45 minutes. Did the PVT and got good pop up but hoping score and license post to FL BON in morning. Good luck. Starting level 4 this fall. Hope everyone is doing good. Long road but definitely worth it!

I'm in level 2 and our syllabus is posted under our course (which is already showing more than a week early). But most of the material is not updated yet. So here's the scoop if you are level 1 - they post things both in your course AND under the ADN commons. Info is under the "course content" header. I WOULD NOT print anything (even if you went to the optional workshop) until after first day. One - they have not updated the version yet and they will and two - even if the version gets updated there may be more changes. Last semester I printed out early and had to reprint. Also - just in case you are not confused enough - there is 1. a handbook; 2. a lab syllabus and 3. a theory syllabus. You really don't need to print it at all out but I am one of those who like to read hard copy so I usually do. With that said - go ahead and peruse what is out under ADN commons and you will get a feel for what is covered. I can't stress enough that things will seem/are very disorganized and you get information and corrections daily. It's all okay - just take it in stride and help each other.

I had level 1 last semester. Monday's is your lab day and Thursday's are theory. Your first four weeks you have the additional lab days in place of clinical where you learn basic skills before you can be at hospital. Lab and theory have different syllabi and for the most part are similar topics but not always. You are quizzed on lab material and tested on theory. Both pull from mainly the Fundamentals book but they don't go in order or cover entire chapters. The site and syllabi are confusing and you will be confused a lot. sometimes the powerpoints aren't very good either. Just "roll with it". You will want to bring the fundamentals book almost every day (it's the heaviest of course). Best to read assigned pages before lecture. The lectures just touch on info - you really need to learn a lot outside of class. One suggestion is to read headings and first sentence or two after. It's almost impossible to read it all. Get the fundamentals success book and do practice questions on topic. You can not memorize info - you need to understand material. The hardest part of program is learning how to critically answer questions - selecting all that apply or the best answer out of several true answers is how you are tested for this program and the nclex. I'm happy to answer any questions before school starts.

I started last semester.so here's a few pointers... 1. Just do as much as you can on certified profile site. It is not friendly or clear and it makes mistakes. You don't start clinical until after 8 weeks and there were some people who were still getting immuniz done right before. Don't stress! 2. Read some of the spring 2015 post - has lots of your answers. 3. Don't buy all the books the B&N site brings up. Some are in a package and also listed individually. Best advice go to bookstore (not early cuz they don't have in stock yet) and buy there. You can check while you are there for orientation. Also you buy your skills kit. Bring a friend to carry or a wheelie bag - Lots of books and $$$. If you are waiting on financial aid just buy first week. No reason to start early. 4. The fall handbook and 2015 syllabus (together about 500 pages) aren't available yet. They will be in ADN commons on my courses. Read those if you want to understand what it is assigned. They Do Not go in order. I think you have access after orientation. 5. Clinical sites are ranked by preference and day or evening. Days have summers off, evening goes straight through. You find out a few days after which one you got. Most people I know got first choice. They go in order of acceptance ranking. In general they try to keep you in same hospital system (HCA, VA, Baycare) thru all 4 semesters if possible. FYI - each has its own little nuances. 6. Like someone else said it's very chaotic - sometimes I wonder if intentional as the workload and study time is very high. The grading system is tough (92 for an A, below 70 failing). But most of your work is pass/fail. You are with fellow students who are all top students. It's a tough program but I love it!! good luck!!

I don't think we will use our books at all on day 1 but the nurse tutor from the NIP said to bring and have in our car and if we need them we could get them on a break. I'm bringing the syllabus, handbook and my laptop in with me. My class instruction says bring in the intro part and handbook and/or have electronic access.

I believe the 12 am note on the web page refers to all courses .... 12 am is midnight by the way.... as far as I know, you go by your schedule ... mine is days with lab first on Monday at 1 pm..

Go under mycourses and take watch video and do tutorial. When you're done it lets you download a certificate. You have to upload that to your drop box by end of week.

What a mess..... The teachers are going thru mycourses pain too. I was told syllabus was not changing and handbook was but based on doc dates it is the exact opposite in mycourses. I'm printing out lab intro part of syllabus (30 pp) only and bringing my laptop so I have "access" as directions indicate. I'm planning on showing up at 1 pm and checking second floor monitor for classroom. I did do the mycourses tutorial and drop boxed my certificate.

So because of the switch over to MyCourses, calendar and course not up until after midnight Friday I don't think we have clear direction from teachers yet. If you want to get ahead of game, I would review and go have printed the syllabus. First you have to find it..... so here's a tip. Click on your old angel link and then choose the dual enrollment/incomplete student link. It takes you to old angel where you can log in and still have access to the ADN nursing commons and the syllabus is under lessons. Yes - you have to frequently use (highly suggested to print out) the first two files (lab and theory) and yes they are both about 250 pages long. You can split into two binders or only print sections you need too (check offs, etc as you need them). The syllabus dated Aug 2014 is current for spring. DO NOT use handbook from Angel from fall semester as a newer version is going to be put out on MyCourses. We were told at optional workshop to bring books and have in car. You can start with Intro and Unit I assignments. I think we will spend most of first class on syllabus. Depends on teacher probably - and yes we all still show classroom tba and some of us have had our teachers change. I have lab first (Monday) and Theory on Thursday so am going to focus more on that syllabus for now. Yikes! Or you can just enjoy your last real weekend for two years!

During orientation I think someone asked about financial aid or I read it somewhere out here on all nurses but for financial aid book credit I believe you just contact financial aid office at the college (someone said any campus but I would go to HEC) and they will adjust your financial aid to cover the high expense of books in our first semester). Your second question about self assessment - I found the little piece of paper they gave me at ATI testing which had the info.... it says login to ATI Testing | Nursing Education | NCLEX Exam Review | TEAS Testing. Your user name is your SPC student ID and password is last 4 digits of your student ID. You click My Products and enter the ID and password from that piece of paper. PM me and I will give you what they gave me. Also you can contact Chuck Rewald at HEC/SPC.

They have two optional workshops Wednesday. Check your email to see if you can still register.

So a couple questions, my teacher changed in mySPC today when I checked (new name not on rate my professor yet). I have MPM generic days schedule. Anyway, I'm going Wednesday to syllabus workshop so I hope I get lots of good info. Getting excited/nervous. I still get weekly emails from Certified Profile because I can't submit the spring handbook or the compliance form until we get new form and meet with teacher. I still do not have the school administrator accepted part either. Are you getting the same weekly emails? Lastly, I was able to save syllabus and handbook from angel before it went away. The nurses group or course doesn't show up yet in MyCourses page. Anyone else have access? Thanks..

I think they all show that until the school does something. In other threads from prior semesters they had same complaint. I hate that I get weekly reminders and I can't do any more in the list - one requires teacher signature and the other two are from the fall syllabus and handbook and I'm not sure if we can use those forms :)
