New York City, You make me so happy and so so sad
@akanini It sure is...Duh i moved to munich 'bout 3 years ago and it's of course a lot different now than being on vacation a few years ago. But I just enjoy all the possibilities a big city has to offer. If you take them or not is still your choice.

I'm sure it will. But that'll happen in every city, now won't it?... That's what I think at least

Thanks @adpiRN :) how much was the housing? You said they're right across the hospital. How much were they? Sounds great. Presbyterian would be one of my favorite ones too.

One more question. I've read so much about "salary". sometimes I see salaries as low as $50K and then sometimes as high as $100K. How high of a salary can you expect? Im currently working on a surgical ICU. Have 3 years of working experience by now. Will that be enough to be eligible for a H1b??

New York City, You make me so happy and so so sad
Hey you guys. I live in a big city now, well not as big as The City but yeah.im pretty sure it'll be super tough but I just wanna give it a shot. I know that I sure will not be living right next to times square but yeah just wanna give NYC a shot. Would love to live and work here and I don't have family, I'm hard working, ambitious and a dedicated person...

New York City, You make me so happy and so so sad
I arrived to NYC just yesterday evening and I absolutely just love this city. It makes me so incredibly happy whenever I'm here but yet so very sad. Because I know I'll have to leave in one week and fly back home. I know it's kinda dumb to say that on the very first day of my vacation but yeah I would just love to live here so so much that's why NYC makes me sad at the same time. Desperate to finding a job in this amazing city and wonderful country.... Have a wonderful Christmas

Cali RN, terminology needed
Yeah it's been pretty tough for international nurses to get a job over in the us lately. I'm a ICU RN not quite sure if that will make the whole H-1b visa easier

Cali RN, terminology needed
Thanks for your reply. I don't live in CA though. I'm still in Germany getting a higher degree. Even though I don't think they will evaluate it in CA but still good to have. CC would be good if I lived in CA but I would like to go through the entire evaluating process starting in about 1 1/2 to 2 years and have the terminology done by then. I know its hard to get a GC though but I still believe that there is hospitals willing to sponsor H-1b visas.

Cali RN, terminology needed
Hey you guys. I'm a German ICU RN wanting to work in Cali. Love love love the U.S. and Cali :) im wondering if any of you know a book or application to learn the English medical terminology. I've googled some NCLEX questions and downloaded a free KAPLAN prep app and I found that I'm having difficulties with the terminology. So I look up words all the time but I'm pretty sure there is books etc. to study medical terminology. Thanks :)

Hello from Germany
Hey there. First things first. Germany is definetly not the best place for a nurse to work at. I mean not even close. What makes you wanna move here so bad?

NURSING IN GERMANY
Well it's pretty close to "Kaiserslautern" which has a population around 100.000 people living there. I just checked the German employment center website which popped up 94 results. But not a whole lot for RN's in hospitals but a lot for nursing homes for the elderly. I used to work at a pretty small hospital out in the country with a population somewhere around 35.000 people and there where in need of RN's every once in a while but for instance the hospital where I work now doesn't even bother deleting job offers they have on their homepage because we have people come and go pretty much every month. I mean there is about 4500 people working at the hospital I work now so the employee turnover is pretty high.

NCLEX RN exam tomorrow!
Good luck to you guys. You'll do well. Don't set your head on fire

Interview dress code
I think a suits not always the best thing to wear. If you don't feel comfortable they will notice. I always wore sth not casual but not too business like. Just to feel comfortable yet look professional.

Salary for an ICU RN in NY?
Trusting salary.com it says the Median salary is somewhere around 80K. But just as you said, some pages say in the 60s some in the upper 90s or even more. However, no matter how much it'll be it's gonna be more than what a nurse gets here I've started out with about 50K which is not a lot. And I live in Munich which is the most expensiv city in Germany.... But yeah not comparable to NYC though....

NURSING IN GERMANY
I can't tell you much about the evaluation process but what I can say is, that it is super easy to find a job these days. Hospitals here don't even have close as much nurses as they would need. However, it's really easy to find a job within a big city circle and not so easy when living out in the country where jobs for nurses have gotten pretty rare.

Hello from Germany
Hey there :) cool. Where exactly was he stationed? Do you remember? You live in the US now?

Piercings & Tattoos?
Good question. I think some do and some don't obviously. There is the once that watch what you do and the way you treat them and then make up their mind and than there is others who just expect you to not be as professional as your coworkers might be. I have a lip piercing and a tattoo on my left arm which you can see when wearing a scrub but nobody has ever said anything. I guess they are just so happy that there still is people helping them in this very moment and throughout their entire time at the hospital.

Night Shift Snack
I guess it's the same everywhere. At least here we always have chocolate and all kinds if junk food laying around for everybody to eat. Never if I bring my own food to work I can barely stand eating that bad stuff. We even have a pizza oven in our staff lounge that will bake a pizza in under 4 minutes. The fact that it is done that fast pretty much tells you it's no good for your body. I never eat as much as I do during night shifts. It's just horrible

Night Shift Snack
I love hummus but had it once during a night shift and will not do it again
-
What are you doing summer break?
No break until 1st of June. Will spend most of the time at home studying for exams. Thinking about visiting NYC for a week.

Night Shift Snack
Same here. Ice cold water keeps me awake plus a pincher of coffee and fruits, veggies, yogurt, nuts...
