As far as required GPA, there isn't one like when you apply to Nova or any other school. The higher your GPA is the better obviously, also the personal essay is about why you would like to pursue or what led you to pursue this career etc. if you want to PM me I could give you more detailed info. on the stats I had.

The scholarship works by paying 100% of your tuition, not including books or uniforms.You will need a good GPA with your most recent transcript, 2 recommendations, a personal essay statement, and a professional resume. They will then schedule you for a panel interview consisting of 5 interviewers asking you a series of questions. Once you have finished school you will then agree to work for 3 years at one of the Baptist hospitals pending a successful interview (you are not "guaranteed" a job) If you do not land a job or decide you want to work elsewhere, you will need to pay the scholarship back, though I wouldn't be concerned with that because of the investment they place in you, it would take a really bad interview for them not to hire you. This was the only year they allowed the winter class to take advantage of the scholarship however, this was done for those who had applied for the fall semester. Baptist had a high turnover this year and decided to have 40 more students defer to the winter term. I don't think you can apply for the scholarship now for the winter (January) of 2015 since they took in their max of 40/class. You had to have applied prior to June 15th I believe for the scholarship. My advice is to call Nova and speak to someone in the Nursing department directly as well as the Baptist scholars department 786-596-4194. Good luck to you!

@stephhrentes: Congratulations!—Yes I believe I received the call Thursday to let me know I received the award, then she said "however"... it will be for the January class. I told them I had to call them back to discuss it with family since I was accepted to another cheaper program. In the end, I felt the same way, excited to get started etc. but this seems too good to pass up, it's another 3-4 months but you get a lot in return. When I called them back I asked the lady Lourdes and she said that we will be receiving a letter in the mail along with a date to come in for orientation, I believe this is when they will go over the details with the contract etc. Let me know if you hear anything else and congratulations again!

Most definitely. For me the commitment isn't a problem, Baptist is one of the largest providers in south florida. Either way I will be doing 2-3 years somewhere where you gain experience. The other thing I researched and spoke to some friends I have, one who went through the process and the other is currently is in their second year is that there is no pay differential, they don't pay you less than they would any new with relatively no experience RN. Sure there might be slight differences in specialties as far as need goes, but the general consensus is there isn't. Not to mention no tuition debt.

Hi Cleolml, Have you heard from Baptist scholars? I got a call last week letting me know I received the award however, I must start in the January (winter) class in order to receive it. They stated it is due to the overwhelming amount of applications they had, not sure what that's about.

What's weird is that the kendall campus takes in 80 students. So I'm not sure where the other 20 are coming from. I was told by them it is for the kendall/Miami campus only. Good Luck.

So the "reviews and rationales for pathophysiology" and "reviews and rationales fundamentals". I do think that an A&P review will be good to look over as well, especially for Nova, the first class you take is Advanced A&P, and known to be tough according to current and past students—specifically physiology.

@sunflower22: Yes I applied and had my interview about two weeks ago. I haven't gone to Nova's orientation obviously since it's in August but I did attend FIU's and was impressed with their organization and the facilities. I hear from RN's and MSN's now that Nova is a great school and that the extra time you spend in the program is very worth it. One of the main reasons I am interested in the scholarship is the job contract, even more so that the paid tuition. I don't think you can go wrong with either school, they are both up there and difficult to get into for a reason.

Which school do you go to? How do you like it? I can't find any info. online about a scholarship similar to Baptist for FIU?

@stan: no-one is getting cold feet. Not sure where you are reading into that. I'm simply weighing the pros and cons of each program with the chance of getting a scholarship. I was accepted to both programs like many others and I do sympathize to those who weren't as fortunate but I did earn those acceptances. I am merely weighing my options to my future. @Britt: yes I did reserve my spot at FIU as I also had to pay a deposit at Nova. Unfortunately when you receive the acceptance they only give you about two weeks, that and those scholar interviews are done weeks after you pay your deposit. I am too thinking FIU seems like the better pick and actually might go with it vs getting a scholarship as well. Best of luck to you!

Does anyone know someone who has gone through the Baptist scholar program? I get so many conflicting stories regarding it's pros and cons. Some people state the three year contract isn't worth it because the pay is very low, which would make sense since they pay the tuition at Nova which isn't cheap... Others say the pay is the same as any starting nurse depending on the location though you aren't guaranteed a spot in those areas. They also made it very clear to me in the interview that the job was not guaranteed and that if those managers decided against hiring you, hence you would then need to pay back the tuition with the burden of NOT having a job to boot.

I had my interview last week as well, they said about two weeks but that they have interviews all through June. I am not sure if they have already accepted people on a rolling basis or will they make decisions when all applicants have been interviewed. The interview went by much quicker than I thought it would be and it clearly seemed the interviewers were exhausted with the questions.

Wow $12/hour? That seems ridiculously low, translates to only about 25K/year. I won't be going to Nova unless I would get that scholarship so the cost of Nova is irrelevant to me I'm also not too worried about the length of the program. However, I was and am much more impressed with FIU, I already have all of my classes scheduled so I am just waiting on Baptist now.

I'm in your same position I was admitted to Nova and FIU but I recently had my Baptist interview, not sure how that went 50/50 I say... Anyway, I was more impressed and have been with FIU than I have been with Nova, if I don't get the scholarship then it is an easy decision to go with FIU, at the same time that scholarship from Baptist is very hard to pass up, mostly since you are almost guaranteed a job on graduation unless you are just terrible.

Anyone know how long more or less the orientation is?

I applied and had the interview today. They told me they interview about 120 people for 40 spots... I was told differently by the admins at Nova and past students but I assume they changed their quotas.

I am going to Miami/Kendall campus for the fall 2014. To all the current students, how many books did you need to carry on a daily basis? Trying to figure out if I need to upgrade my bag. Were any of the books in an ebook format?

If it was the TEAS V then the Kaplan Nova has you take at the time of your interview should be easy for you. 3.3 isn't bad, I talked to some people there that got in with 3.2's. It's more of a collective, volunteer hours, EC's, recommendation letters, and of course the interview. You should get an interview, but you need to apply asap. Two-years is a LONG time, so I would DEFINITELY try. Good luck to you!
