what kind of jobs does a RN do
pritampaulsingh, I agree with everyone who has replied to your post so far. I especially think it is a good idea to atleast shadow a nurse for a day or work as a nursing assistant for a while, even if it is just for a couple of months to get a basic idea of an RN's job description. If money is your motivation, because you say you "have to", why nursing? That's not the only job in healthcare that pays well. What about CRT, Pharmacist, MD, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, ect. I think it would definately benefit you to look into this further. Your career will be the rest of your life.

What is your biggest nursing pet peeve?
So far mine is when nurses talk 100 miles an hour in report and I can't keep up but it might just be me because I am a new nurse, I guess I'll find out in time but for now I have to say can you please slow down and I've had to say start over before, I know they probably hate; I think some of them forget what it was like to be a new graduate.

Don't worry, I'm sure you did great. Everyone I talked to in my class was sure they failed the exam because it was just so dang hard; turns out each one of them passed. Good Luck!

3rd shift people please help
These suggestions help me out also. Thank You. I think it's really neat you and your husband both work night shift together rn/writer. I will be working night shift, 7p-7a, for the first time in my life. My biggest concern about this shift, not by choice, is not the sleep part itself but what I will be able to do with my time on my days off late at night while my husband, friends, family, well lets just say everyone I know and love is sleeping. My husband works 7a- 3:30 five days a week, no kids. I guess I'm just afraid I'm going to become depressed and lonely because we've been going upstairs to bed together at the same time for 8 years now. There is no where for me to go that late at night. I don't know, what do you guys think. I start my new job on July 25th

Did anyone try to talk you out of being a nurse?
My mom, being a RN herself, tried to talk me out of going to nursing school. Now, I'll be taking the NCLEX-RN exam next week. She worked Med-Surg for 17 years, loved taking care of people but it was just so hard on her physically and emotionally. Maybe if she wouldn't have stayed on the same floor for all those years she could have found something that didn't wear her down so much, but that was her comfort zone she said. I'm so glad I didn't listen to her this one time, although I do understand where she is coming from. I just had an interview yesterday for float team RN position. I wanted to start out this way so I can go to different areas in the hospital-find my nitch. I say do it for yourself because your the only one who can say for sure if it's for you.

Charting ?
If I were the one concerned about this I would check and see what the hospital policy is. You could ask a supervisor without calling a specific person out. Maybe just say, I've noticed everyone one does it a little different, what is the right way so I'll know for me. Then you will know exactly what you are supposed to be doing and nevermind what anyone else says. That sounds mean but I didn't mean it that way. I just meant in the back of your mind you could be thinking that you know how it is supposed to be done.

Got a sunburn....
My husband recently got a sunburn. He kept tons of lotion on because he was afraid he would peel. He didn't but maybe he wouldn't have anyway, I'm not sure. It's worth a try. What kind of sunscreen was you wearing, just curious?
