  1. I was finally offered the job after a week of waiting. Maybe I was reading too much into the handshake, maybe not...I had another opportunity to shake the lady's hand in a less stressful and neutral environment and it was the same experience. So, I've decided to accept the offer(turned down two offers already)and hope the handshake is not a sign of things to come. Thanks everyone for your input.
  2. Brooklyn, New York $38.5/hr base pay $0.74/hr Bsn $0.76/hr experience $3/hr night shift. ER.
  3. Hello everyone, I had a job interview where it seemed the job was mine as far as the nurse recruiter was concerned. I went on to meet the director of the department who asked me few questions which I thought I answered very well. She asked me what shift I wanted and I told her even though I prefer days I will be open to work nights, she got upset about this and chastised me saying she didn't want anyone to threaten to quit if they weren't given day shift. She went on to say that if hired on nights and an opening on days was available, I will have to wait for my replacement to be hired and trained before transfering. At the end I thanked her and offered a handshake but what I got in return was the weakest, limpiest, and coldest handshakes ever. This got me thinking the director is not excited about me and I may be right because I have yet to hear from them after two days of leaving messages and I have a feeling they don't take that long to make their job offers. Has anyone had similar experience?
  4. Thank you all for your input. I've been back and forth on the phone with HR regarding this issue and unfortunately, HR remained obstinate and maintained they wanted letters . This seemed to be a problem because, some of my past managers are no longer with the company hence couldn't write me a letter with the company logo. My call to their HR informed me to use the work number for verification which I told this lady and offered to pay for but she refused. When all was said and done I had to bow out gracefully. One of the requirements for the job was experience but you want to pay me new grad rate and take advantage of my years of experience. I'm sorry but I worked hard for the experience .
  5. I got a new job that I'm supposed to start Monday but HR wants me to get employment verification letters from past employers or they will start me at a new grad rate which is at least $7000 less than my offer letter stated. I've told HR to use the work number to verify the dates but I was told they don't use the work number and given the end of today to get them. While I will love to start this job, I know my worth and don't think I'm desperate enough to take a job at a new grad rate when I have at least five years experience. Anyone have any suggestions?
  6. I got accepted to Stonybrook ANP program starting this summer, ADN gpa 3.4, BSN gpa 3.8. Haven't heard from anyone else because I only applied to Stonybrook. About five years experience inCardiothoracic Step-down and Telemetry. A bit nervous though, we were told during the interview we have to find our own preceptors even though they said they will assist if we're having difficulty locating one. Orientation is the end of the month.
