I agree with all but the 'ICU and OR usually float much less" statement. I'm an ICU nurse and as a traveler I floated nearly every day. They told me "You're an ICU nurse. You can work anywhere." That included med/surg, ER (seriously) and even really weird things like an outpatient eye surgery clinic attached to the hospital. I was terrified. That's a big reason why I stopped traveling.
  2. I know I'm seeing this two years later, but in Southern California I usually got about $800/wk housing stipend.
  3. I can't believe I found this! Thanks for the ideas. I was an ICU traveler for 3 years and just last year went staff here in San Diego. I like my job (especially the benefits) but I have the itch to travel again. I was thinking about just getting an RV and then putting my housing stipends towards it. In the end I'd own an RV and have flexibility in what I wanted to do. Just FYI, when I was in LA, my agency accidentally sent me the hospital contract. The hospital was paying $86/hr for me and I was getting $48 of that. Still kinda makes me sick.
