HPU accepts anyone. that's where my friends who are now nurses went to when they got rejected from UH.

well personally I would choose queens. it is a magnet hospital. queens has the most room for growth and the most resources. the parking seems like a little issue compared to the bigger picture. to be the best nurse you must place yourself in the best possible situation.. #QUEENS! aloha!

reading through all your post about getting into nursing school kind of in a weird way makes me miss nursing school lol. its def hard work, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. the life of a real nurse is fun and worth every sleepless night. congrats to all of you. are you willing to move to the big island?

well on the big island compared to Oahu the cost of living is less, rent is less so of course the pay is less. however, its still good compared to all the other jobs around. and I would think its the same for nursing on Oahu. higher pay, but the cost of living is higher also. so I guess it equals out.

I actually did my new grad program back in 2011 on the big island and have stayed at the hospital until just now applying for queens. its a tough market out there. I had a hard time too. straub I believe has a new grad program as well as pali momi. you should call them and inquiry. they should be starting up soon. the place I did my new grad program has one in Oct and you don't need to be in house to apply. however, that's if you want to move to the big island.

yeah I hear he the new grad program and they take a lot. I guess they like those already working in the queens system. are you working in Vegas? how is it getting a job there as a new grad? you could do what I did and work somewhere else until you get experience and then work at queens. queens is a great hospital. have you looked into straub to see if they have a new grad program?

really? I'm sorry that you feel this way. what nursing school are you graduating from? to be completely honest with you you'd probably need to work as an aide to get into the new head program at queens. I hear they have a new grad program every year, but only hire within. try your best to get into a position. once you get in, you're set. unless you want to work at a different hospital for now and then once you have a year of experience apply for a RN position at queens. whatever you do though, never give up. its hard and I had times where I felt as if I would never find a job, but everything happens for a reason.

keep on calling and be persistent. once they see this they for sure have to listen to you.

hey there! I actually took a little longer. I graduated school in may and I took a little time off. I took the nclex in December. so it was more than four months. I guess the amount of time you need depends on the individual. I felt I needed a little more time. to prepare for the test I first used the Saunders review book. I used this first because it helped me brush up on content only. I would dedicate a whole week to a certain system, ie one week for GI, and so on and so forth. once I felt confident with the material I did Kaplan. Kaplan is good to help you with test taking and how to select the right answer. do what got you through nursing school. you went to the job fair? when did you graduate nursing school? what kind of nursing experience do you have besides volunteer work?

yeah the hunt for that first job was very difficult so just take it wheverr it is. I did not have to work as an aid actually. I hear a lot have to though. I was lucky enough to get into a new graduate program at a smaller hospital on another island and now I finally applied to the "bigger" hospitals here in Hawaii. where did you graduate from?

I am a nurse that got offered a job at both places for medsurg. career wise I really don't know what I want to do. maybe ICU later. right now I like medsurg.

I need advice from those who know. I recently got offered a job at queens and at straub. I am stuck. I don't know which one to accept. can anyone working at these hospitals let me know their thoughts etc. I need to make a decision. they are both for the same position, just different hospitals.
